Post After sales packages 2001 tl

Is it worthwhile to buy the dealer offer for rust proofing - $600 and extended warranty 6 yrs/160 km for $1528 plus tax? I dont know if i'm getted ripped off or is it better to have for the resale value of the car?

thanx for any advice

Do NOT buy that! That a waste of $. Not even 1 cent. All cars here are treated with rust-protection before they leave the plant. Sometimes a dealer offers a "shine" package to "make the car extra-shine". Don't buy into that either. The extra warranty probably is not worth it either.

Extended warranties are available AFTER you leave the dealership typically for alot LESS than what the dealer offers it to you for. Geico Insurance policyholders can add it to their insurance for like $60-90 a year, and its cancelable at anytime. AAA now offers mechanical breakdown insurance (simlilar to the extended warranty coverage) and you can start that AFTER your warranty expires. A few Warranty companies have websites up that offer similar, so for those of you who like the peace of mind of having insurance/warranty coverage, just in case, there you go.

Say if I bought my car today, I could go buy that 3 years 364 days from now?

Andrew... HOW MANY times have I told you that rustproofing is BS?! why do you never listen to me!!!

As for the extended warranty from manufacturers... that is semi-BS.. they dont cover everything.. and give you hassle..

Ive found warrantygold.com to be very good.. they cover EVERYTHING... plus cheap.. and you can get huge milage plans.. plus you dont have to goto the dealer for service either... and it is all COD... so whatever shop you bring it to.. they dont care what you have done to your car.. or where it has been.

extended warranty can be had for less elsewhere. the one sold by acura is not even really an acura product, they are just a reseller.

think about it - the companies selling this stuff are out to make money, so the price has to be more than the average repair costs for the particular car. you can always buy it later on...

Thumbs down

Rust proofing for that much? I wouldn't...I skipped on any extra options they offered me, I just told them to give me what I want, no more no less.

Extended waranties?...well that's up to you, but for me I still wouldn't buy it. What am I gonna need it for...it's a brand new car!

I passed on the rust proofing too. They offered it to me at half price, but I don't get much snow down here (less than 30days worth per year). I figured I'll just spray the bottom of the car with water each time I get some and use that money on other toys.

I did get the extended warrenty though. Things must be more expensive in Canada because my warrenty wasn't that much, and they gave me 30% off. Final price, $799.00.

NOTE: I got those offers because it was an end of the year sale. I doubt they would of done that if it weren't.

Rustproofing is absolutely worthless!!! It's a rip-off; Modern cars do not need further treatment to be protected from corrosion.

An extended warranty for $750/year? What do you think you'll be paying for repairs during the car's 5th and 6th years of life? Seems like a bad bet to me for an Acura.

Damn, I got ripped off, then. The freakin dealer sold me an extended warranty for $2,250 for the 5th year. They said that the Bank required it, since it is a 5 year loan. What can I do to get out of it? I don't need the 5th year?

Rustproofing? IS BS. Nuff said.

My father got out of a extended warrenty he got when he first bought an Isuzu a while back. Not sure how long after he got the car though. If you havent had your car for that long, give it a try. Doesn't hurt to try.

You can probably get out of the extended warranty with a written request to the warranty provider. Read the fine print on the document. But be warned, I work at a bank and one of my customers had bought extended warranty from the car co for C$1300 they cancelled after 6 mos and only got C$800 back!

I think it reads you have 60 days to cancel for a full refund. If after 60 and before the factroy 4-year kicks in, you can cancel with a letter for a $30 fee. Either way, you paid too much.
