AEM Cold air induction question

Excuse my newbieness, but what exactly does this part do? If I added this to a stock 03 tl-s, would I notice a difference or not? I want to start MODing the car, but I want to start small...and cheap...

For the most part I think the CAI is too expensive for the gains that you supposedly get. It is like $200 or so. Used for about $100 to $150 I think. Some say they notice a performance difference and some dont. It is definitely louder. I think it is small, but not cheap.

from personal knowledge you're not going to notice significant gains with any one mod by itself, unless you put a s/c on, each one brings to the table it's own advantages and disadvantages, having said that IMO the cold air intake is a good starting point for any car, if you want to really hear you're car breathe get the AEM, if you want to sound more stock i've heard the Comptech does so. I have the AEM b/c I like it LOUD.

Peace, Jeff

you have read wrong. from what ive read in the past the comptech icebox was rated(dynoed) at 11 hp and the aem just 1 hp less
its hard to accuratly dyno something like that that would benifit from moving cool air by it and not sitting on a dyno

yes. somewhere on comptech's site they have just the dyno of the intake (atleast they used to) besides the header the intake is the single biggest hp maker (that and the crank pully)

i got ingen cai and i like it only cuz when you pound your car you can hear the engine, but 15.4 down the 1/4 mile stock and 15.0 with the cai. you CANT feel the little extra hp but you can see it in the time. also the 15.0 sec time was when the car was slammed with choke camber, so less traction. by the way the aem cai is cheaper then the ingen and aem is louder then the ingen and they both are close in hp.
