Acura TL 1999 CD problem..
My 1999 TL won't play any burned CD's. Is there a technique that I should use (burn rate, program, etc.)? What else can I do besides swapping out for a double din or aftermarket Headunit?

You can try different cd brands and hope one works. Your best bet is to get a 2002-2003 TL 6 disk headunit. Its a direct swap and they play burned cds. The 99-01 HU has a very hard time playing them. Some have had success trying different brands others havent.

Another option is to skip the burned CD-Rs altogether and install a MP3/iPod adapter. There are custom adapters that plug right into the back of your OEM head unit.
I actually installed a 2002-2003 TL HU in my 1999 TL and it plays burned CDs without a problem.
But, at the same time, I installed a Blitzsafe iPod adapter and I haven't played a burned CD in months. An iPod is such a superior solution.
In retrospect, I could have just mated the Blitzsafe adapter with my original head unit.

I guess that's the only way, a new headunit.
Getting a new headunit would be costly wouldn't it because you have to get the brackets and such correct?
So i guess a 01-03 TL 6 disk CD changer is better? How much will those run me used and is it simple to replace? just plug and play? what work does it involve?
thanks

I'm not sure about the cost of installing a non-OEM head unit in the TL but many others have done that here.
The 2002-2003 6-Disc Changer head units can be found from $75 to $300 depending on where you buy it and how long you're willing to wait for a good deal. I think I bought mine for about $100 from another forum member.
It is a plug-n-play replacement.
There's a great "how-to" for replacing the radio but I don't have the link handy. I'll try to post it later...

It's not worth trying to get burned cds to work. Get an aftermarket headunit or 02-03 TL 6 disk cd player like fsttyms1 stated. It would take my 99 headunit 30 minutes to play one song<----RIDICULOUS! So I switched to an aftermarket cd player and I felt so relieved.

Same problem i have man, just burn at slow rate usually works. But if I skip to the next song, it screws it up and wont play; till I eject and put the cd back in.

Well my 99 TL has a DVD based Navigation system but no 6-disk CD changer only the single headunit CD player. If I do get a 6 disk CD changer, it should be for a 02-03 so that it will play burned CD's correct? IS the installation still a simple plug and play since mine currently is a single in Dash CD player not the 6 disc CD changer?
Anywhere I would find one for cheap online? (or a junkyard or parts search online)
also, How hard and costly would it be to place an aftermarket headunit into a TL?
Thanks

Hi Le14 :
I went with the trunk mounted 6-pack to play burned MP3's which do work fine, but I've regretted it ever since. It cost me ~$500 bucks and it constantly skips at higher volumes and on bumpy roads, plus it jams quite frequently. The IPod interface is clearly the better choice and I may be dumping the CD 6-pack even though I've already spent the money.
The IPod won't skip, the format issue is resolved and you can have hundreds CD's available, not just six. Don't waste your money on the 6-pack as some here have pointed out, it's simply expensive old technology.

if your confident in your self, you can do it. walk into your local best buy or any car audio store and grab the unit.. it just plugs into your cd changer input on the back side of the stock deck.. oh and if you aren't able to install it, call up a buddy who is mechanically inclined and a 12 pack and get'er done! either that or get a brand new deck, its up to you.. if you get a new deck installed from a car audio place your going to loose your bose system..

Adding a aftermarket radio is NOT hard. There is no special costly brackets. All you need is a metra dash kit for like 20 bucks.
or last option would be a Blitzsafe adapter to connect a ipod to the factory HU. they all have a slot on the back for it to connect.

Yes. Use the search button for more info. Swapping them is plug and play. BUT it has to be from a 02-03 TL not CL. they are different hu's

In reply for details......
I haven't actually pulled a head unit out and looked at it. I suspect its like your home sterio system with all those extra connectors. You should see something like a female RCA plug.

I think I'm gonna go for the Blitzsafe install. I found on "To confirm, the 1999 Acura TL's with the Bose System single CD in dash have the unused 14 pin port at the back of the radio unit...and from there the you can hook up the Blitzsafe to the Ipod?"
My stock system is the Bose system with a Single In Dash CD player and Navigation.
I should be able to plug the blitzsafe to the back correct?
What is the easy way to install it? (Read that I didn't have to take off the dash, some DIY's states that you have to uninstall the whole dash, etc.)
Any links to the DIY's?
Thanks everyone

99 acura tl cd player
hey i have 99 acura tl with cd player and navigation, navigation works cd player keeps giving me an err messege:--- does anyone know what this message means?

Mr.Helpful Diagram
You should start a new thread, what does the player say err1 or 2 3 etc or just err. It can be anything like stuck cd or tape inside be more specific , chances are a new one would be the way to go.
Heres the answer to this thread might help some: Post #9 https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/02-tl-6-disc-cd-player-single-disk-cd-player-01-tl-884874/
