Question 99TL Stalling Problem

My friends 99 TL with 93,000 miles on it is stalling while driving. It happens while accelerating and completely gives out. The "key" or ignition light comes on and she has to put into neutral or park to get it started, which it usually starts right back up. It then does this 2 or 3 more times in the next few minutes, then will drive fine. She had the shift interlock replaced by dealer and it didn't stall again for a few weeks. It is inconsistent, unpredictable and really dangerous. Has anyone else had this problem? Thank you!

sounds like what happened to my friends 2000... cept at a traffic light we stopped then it turned green and he hit the gas and nothing happened... we had to start it again... im pretty sure he had his transmission replaced shortly after if that helps at all... idk if the problems are related though

No it doesnt sound like a tranny problem. He never said any thing about the thing having rough shifts, slipping between shifts and a hard time or long pause going into gear. The motor stalling while driving or some of the other symptoms wouldnt be tranny.(possibly while coming to a stop) im still waiting for some to use that excuse when a headlilght goes out

Could this also be caused by a clogged Idle Air Control Valve (IACV)?

Possible. there are many things that would cause it to stall. Being its a 99 and they had a ignition problem/recall i would guess that since the car is just shutting off

She went out for lunch today and the car stalled on her 4 times in a 3-4 mile radius. She also said that the transmission seems to be shifting a little rough.

There was a 2002 recall on the ignition switch for the 1999 TLs. If you call Acura on 1-800-382-2238 with the VIN number, they can tell you if that was done.

When it stalls does he lose the dash lights as well as the power windows? If so it is most definitely the ignition switch. I had the same problem recently.

Yes, that's an excellent suggestion.

I was actually checking on this recall for my 1999 Acura TL this morning but I couldn't immediately remember my Owner Link password. So I called instead.
