99 TL ceased engine swap
Hello,
I have been a lurker here for a while now, this site has been a godsend. Now i have a huge work ahead of me and i thought i would get yall's advice before i started taking things apart. so my situation is as follows... the timing belt broke and i have a ceased engine on my hands. i have found a replacement engine with low miles and like most of here i like doing the work myself rather than taking it to stealership. my questions for yall is....
1. what's the better way to remove the engine/transmission, top or bottom? (i don't have a car lift, doing this job in my one car garage apartment with basic tools and engine hoist)
2. since i can't turn the engine over, what's the best way to separate the engine and tranny?
3. do i need to drain the tranny oil before hand, the manual suggests to do so? is it necessary?
4.I will do basic clean up and swap part on the replacement engine. are there things to watch out for?
5. is it hard to remove the drive shafts? i read some conflicting comments on here about it and i'm still not sure if its gonna be a problem or not.
Thanks in advance, i know yall wont let me down

welcome to official zinership~
ck out the DIY section, the 2 threads contain all the links, special projects and builds
also look down the main thread list, our leader fsstyms1 has done a full swap to 6speed and engine overhauls etc on his 00
anything he has written is word! and has good pics
fluids left in the engine or trans will end up all over you and the garage floor during removal, guaranteed
you should do the 105 service- timing belt water pump, spark plugs, adjust valves remove intake manifold and clean egr and throttle body..huge problem on 99s
egr clogging
way easier to do all that with engine on the bench/stand
new thermostat, flush the rad, replace suspect or all hoses you can find
Replace or clean the small wire type ground wires from frame to engine
anything you can get to for cleaning with engine out should be done
