Thumbs up 6 speed manual TL-S

In this weeks AutoWeek magazine it is reported that there will be a 6-speed manual transmission offered later this year in the Tl-S. Nothing was said about the CL-S or either of the "P" models.

Thumbs up

Hopefully they'll have something interesting when I'll be coming off the lease in 2003 for a 2004 model otherwise I'll be getting an Audi or an MB...

Some might, but not many. I don't think there will be a huge demand for the manual. Sure, the enthusiasts you see on this site will eat them up, but the average TLS buyer probably will not be interested.

I heard the rumor about the manual before I bought my '02 TLS, but it wasn't a factor for me. There is no way I want to drive a stick in Houston traffic. To me, the sport shift is a good enough compromise.

Question

I just checked Autoweek magazine online and didn't see any mention of a TL-S with 6 speed. There is an article about the RSX Type S with a 6 speed. Are you sure this isn't what you were looking at and wishing it said TL-S.

As much as that would excite me, the chances of me getting a daily driver in manual is slim to none...I'd love it, but my parents wouldn't..they drive my car..

No manual TL-S for me. SS is good enough for me. I must be getting old...

But that new RSX S type w/6 speed, that would be fun.

I wonder the same thing. I say to myself:

ummm....I'm getting the 2002 TLS, but wait I should get the 2003, or better yet get the 2004 and it goes on and on. They keep improving every year so you don't know what they are going to come up on the next release.

On the 6 speed deal. I will love a 6 speed, I just have a lot more control over a sudden need of acceleration.

If I were 5 years younger, single, and earn as much money as is now, I would definitely buy a "two door manual TL-S" = manual CL-S. But now I am older and married. I need four doors, for my soon-to-come kids. My wife wants to drive my car and she doesn't know how to drive manual cars.

So even if the TL-S has a choice of manual or auto transmission, I will still have to go for the auto one.

I thought I heard about that a few months ago!! People kept telling me "no, not gonna happen" and now I'm knee deep in negotiations for a TL-S. Screw that, I'm waiting for the manual now! Can you post where exactly you found that article (month and page if possible) so I can confirm for myself?

    Muchos gracias.

I'd like to see that article posted too. I just picked up my TL-S a few days ago. I LOVE stick. Ever since my used 72 Chevy Nova V8/302 4-on-the-floor, I've had stick. Much more fun. Heck, even my sixty-eight year old mom drives stick (just don't be on the road when her cell phone rings)...she needs another hand

    Tango-

Dude you are my hero! I've wanted a stick for so long but I love my TL soooo much and would have hated myself if I parted with it. I was considering the new Passat W8 6 speed manual but now I am glad I didn't put a down payment on that car or on the TL-S auto. Consider my new down payment PAID.

To ye few who work at Acura dealers: do you have any of this info in the computer or verifiable in any way? And who do I make the check out to?

yeah you're probably right... but i'll cross my fingers anyway... and maybe say a little prayer before bed...

just out of curiousity, if you had to buy your TL all over again, how many people *would* get a 6 speed manual over the auto/ss?

    Cool

Like Nate said, I'll believe it when I see it....

You know what's funny too? There was a press statement by Honda that said the CL-S was getting a 6-speed manual but the TL-S wasn't going to change until the 2003-2004 redesign. I don't think anyone should trade their cars just yet. No one knows what's going to happen. Right now it's all rumor. Just like if you email all of your friends the Microsoft email you will get $500 .....

I love my TL and it's a great car, but if even if there was a six-speed manual available I would consider getting something else. Right now, I am slated to take delivery of my M3 in a few months. I am sure that the TL-S with 6speed will be a blast to drive though...SMOOTH AND SILKY WITH POWER!!! WHAT A COMBO!

I don't think the car would be in high demand
with a 6 speed manual. The target market for people that buy the TL or even a TL-S are not people that are looking for a manual tranny. If they do make the car with a 6 speed manual it will be hard to get. I think the average buyer of the TL, TL-S are people of age 35 or over. People of this age such as I are not looking to buy a manual tranny.
I drove manual 5speed Honda cars for 20yrs.
This was almost everyday & guys when you get my age this is the last thing you want to do everyday. I prefer the auto manual & wish Acura would spend more time on improving it.
