Thumbs up 200k and beyond.....! Got one, tell us !

Hey everybody, with our 2nd gens having been around for well over 10 years now, many '99>'03 TL's have accumulated alot of miles. It's very common to have 200k and even more on the dial at the present time. This is all in despite of the dreaded tranny failure issues.

So, let's get it on with how ya got there and give some helpful inspiration moving forward to 300k or even 500k !!!

Tell us at what mileage ya bought it, tranny history, major PM intervals, and any tips or advice for the long haul. (200k and counting TL's only)

Thanks for keeping the spirit alive and going strong with our 2nd Gens !

Currently at 203,700 miles.

Bought it a year ago at 201,000 miles. I'm the second owner. It seemed in pretty decent shape. A few knicks and dings, but nothing major. The transmission was replaced in 2005 at 90,000 miles. About 1,000 miles ago I did a 3x3 change because the fluid was really dark. Transmission shifts flawlessly. No major maintenance yet, but the timing belt is coming up here pretty soon. I was going to do it myself, but I don't have the crank bolt remover tool. I really wish Honda would have used a chain instead of a belt. Such a costly pain in the ass.

Anyway, my dad has been buying Hondas since the 1980s, so I'm really trying to see how high I can get the odometer.

The Honda crank pulley tool is cheap ($20 at amazon) and very easy to use with a small breaker bar hooked to it with the end on the floor. A large breaker bar with a 4ft+ pipe will break that crank bolt loose.

This new thread is not meant to be a contest, but more of an inspirational motivator for sharing tips from more experienced Ziner's who drove the long road to over 200k.

The main reason for starting this new thread is to encourage newer members with the benefits of our '99>'03 TL's and hopefully it will help enlighten them about how our cars can endure many more years of reliable service once the main issues are resolved.

It appears that more folks are either losing interest or moving up to the 3rd Gens. So, Nuf-said.... gotta keep the 2nd Gen's alive, so let's help do our part !!! ~thanks~

600,000 miles on any vehicle is hyper-impressive. Nice.

I have a customer that has 450,000 on an old dodge pick-up.

No, i converted it to a type-s engine and 6 speed manual trans. 5 auto failures prompted the conversion.

216k, received as a gift in 2011 @ 177k and am the 2nd owner (Thanks Gma!)

-2nd or 3rd tranny (details on that are fuzzy).

T belt is near due, but other than that I've just done maintenance stuff and mild mods, only "major" things needed to replace have been a CV axle and the ignition switch

Thanks guys and gals...... any more "200 K +++ 2nd Gens" ???
We all know that Fsttyms1 is leading the pack, but it's also very commendable to acknowledge any others with over 200k and beyond.

A remarkable milestone in anybody's eye !!! So, bring them on....

235k original engine and tranny I think.
bought it at 190k 4 years ago.
tranny has modified line on it but not sure when it was done.
has P0740 light sometimes, but still shift fine for about a year now.
just waiting for it to die and swap in Odessey tranny.

I thought if you hit 500k on a car, you get a new car from the dealer. But, yours is exceptional as you swapped out many things; so that wont count as 600k miles car.

I doubt there is any truth to that :V. If it were true, everyone would rack up 500k and then just get a new one for free.

I wish, though!

Smile 2003 tl-type-s

Hi all i bought my 2003 acura tL-typeS brand new in may 2002 when the model came out and i have still in mint condition with 221k miles. I had to replace my Tranny at 101k and since then had no issues with the car. It STill runs and looks like a brand new TL..I keep the car in best shape by just washing every couple months and doing regular maintence. Thats ALL FOLKS. my advice is to not to let anyone drive your car. I don't trust anyone touching my car.

Cool Hit 500K....then receive a new car free ?

...... The manufacturer or dealer would need detailed documentation if a "free replacement" was offered in exchange to the original owner for a car reaching 500K. This would be a great testimonial endorsement of their product's overall service durability.

IMO, whoever is fortunate enough to hit 500K deserves a free new car or at least a 50% discount. Anyways, they really don't want the cars to last that long.....as it would take a big bite out of their future sales and profits.

Not many folks are dedicated enough to stand by any car for that long, unless the car is exceptionally special to that person. Most people tend to either just get bored or fed up with the car in general as ownership becomes more of a challenge than it's worth.

03 TLS bought new

Now have about 207,000. New trans replaced at 100,000 under warrenty, timing belt at 116,000. Probably be the last time it is replaced. Nothing else replaced other than brakes, tires, rotors.

I change the oil every 5,000, and do a 3 qt trans change every 30,000.

Gave the car to my son, still looks great and runs perfect. Garage kept really helps !!!

.... Yeah, it's rather a rarity to see an original owner at our TL's current 10+ years of accumulated wear and tear. Many folks give up after 5 years and move on to the newer bodystyle. Also, lot's of people don't want bothered with the expensive maintenance after 100k.

It appears that once the common issues are resolved, these TL's are rock solid other than the problematic trannys.

^^^ I don't mind keeping an old car if I like it! Its like old school cars like Mustangs and Chargers I think perhaps in some years the TL will be seen as one of those time-less cars.. Just Perhaps..
