2002 TLS Engine Block Replacement
Hi, I am a new member to this forum and own a 2002 TLS with 42,000 miles on it.
This is the second TL I have owned. The first new 2000 TL was repurchased by Acura due to an unknown vibration at highway speed.
My 2002 TLS recently required a new transmission which was replaced under warranty.
Now I have an oil leak that has been diagnosed as an engine block leak requiring the Acura delership to replace the block.
Not to sound stupid, but is the block a separate part of the engine, or does the dealer replace the entire engine? If so, is the dealer required to reset the odometer to 0? Hope someone out there can help me. Thanks a lot.

The engine block is the main piece of aluminum making up the engine, so in essence, you're getting a new engine. Typically, this involves at a minimum, new piston rings, but may include new pistons and connecting rods. I would assume that Acura would replace the engine as a unit, because I don't think individual dealerships perform the rebuilding of a new engine starting with the block, because it is too time consuming. It's easier for the dealership to replace the engine as a complete assembly, and return your faulty engine to the factory. Regarding the odometer, I don't think it would be legal for them to reset the odometer to zero, because the car as a whole still has the mileage you specified, regardless of a transmission or engine replacement. I'm sure there are other opinions regarding the odometer issue.
Hope this helps.

yeah lower block will be replaced, nothing else. they wont completely replace the motor. even if they did, they still would not reset the odo....
