2000 TL Grill Mod - Ya or Na

Ok, I got an extra chrome border for my grill and decided to paint it. I had already painted the center where the Acura symbol is. I have seen people completely paint the grill one color, I wanted to keep the black back ground. Just wanted to get your opinions. The link below will take you to the pictures.

looks very nice. I plan on doing the same. How much it cost you to get painted?

I painted mine too. My car is black so it blends better than yours but yours looks unique. I diched the chrome middle part and just left the chrome emblem. I may put mine back like yours.

Shimbo519: I did the paint myself, I used cheap Dupli-color paint (total cost $14). I blended their dark Jade and glossy black to get the dark emerald color and afterwards, I coated it with clear acrylic. Paint process took about 15 min to get the right shade, the clear coat I did the next day after the paint had dried.

i just looked at the pix again, unless you use primer and your true body paint, at an angle or in sunlight, the colors will not match.

i kept the chrome on mine, i went with orginal mesh, then i painted it black, i like it in black and chrome appearance. I was thinking about painting the chrome NBP color, but it will lose the contrast.

Teknoking, I agree that the paint does not look like it matches very well, but you have to remember, the chrome is at a very differnt angle than that of the hood and when the sun shines on it, it stands out, but when in non-direct sunlight, the paint matches very well. I spent a while experimenting on getting the right blend before painting the grill.

green2000TL,

correct me if i'm wrong, but does your bumper have a mesh grille/screen whatdoyacallit.? if so, did you do that yourself? i had that idea, just didn't know how to pursue it or if anybody did it.

Personally, I think the painted outter edge looks awesome on lighter colour cars (like fsttyms) but on darker colours, I prefer keeping the grill 'as is'. I think the chrome adds some great contrast on dark colours.

i did it my self, and you should sand it down REALLY good and use a good primer. paint doesnt like to stick to chrome, unless its really sanded and primed good
oh and thanks for the compliment Ianbiz3

Whatwasthat: You are correct, there is a grille/screen on the lower half of my bumper. I made a custom fit grille. Went to Taps plastics and got an 3/4 inch plastic rod and heated it up with a heat gun and molded/bent it into the shape of the bumper, including the triangular point of the bumper. After bending the rod into shape, I took some wire mesh from Home Depot and mounted it from behind. Then I mounted the grille with a few screws.
