160K miles...Should i get engine mods??

Im getting my dads 1999 TL for my first car, it has 160,000miles on it. I dont know if i should get any engine mods on it or not. I just dont want to get H/I/P and have my engine blow up and waste all that money but i have always dreamt of making this car a beast. My dad never really drove the car hard, but he never really took great care of it(a damn shame). Any help with my predicament whould be great. thanks

Speaking from experience...if I was in your shoes Id focus my money more on personalization & possibly suspension modifications. Leave the go-fast stuff later for your next car when you can afford to put it on a better platform. The end result of you putting money in go-fast mods will be minuscule, compared to if you put that same amount of money on suspension.

Skip the boy-racer crap, save your money, go to a good college, get a very high paying job and then you can buy your own TL and do whatever mods you want.

Before you mod it you should definately go through and do ALL the general maint. stuff and stage 0 so to speak, a sample list from another forum, an old volvo one of mine, this one for a 850 turbo I believe, so some stuff may not apply:

Plugs
plug wires
cap/rotor
oil/transflush
filter (oil)
hoses (the little vac lines)
samco hose kit
02 sensors
fuel pumps
clean injectors
clean IC/IC plumbing
Air filter

I would do at the very least:

Plugs/wires
oil/trans flush
oil/air filter

Its what I am doing right now for as cheap as I can afford.
How well was it taken care of by him?

the engine on the tl is the best and strongest part of the tl. dont worry about blowing the engine! it would take ALOT more than I/H/E to blow or hurt the honda engine. if you have the money do it. be more werry about the tranny though!

Mine sure does :P, first gen though, I just wander around all the forums, theres some stuff that would fit really well in to a general TL forum.

16 yo + 99 TL + mods/$$ = trying to show off and wrapping around the basketball post. Good luck to you though. I suggest a better stereo. The stock system is the only glaring shortcoming of the TL.

ps.s
hehe show all the ricers at my school what a real car is...hehe
...sounds like you are going to be a ricer! hehe

I'm just jealous. My first car was a 1973, rusted out Plymouth Satelite with a non working passenger door. Yet it had an anti theft alarm.
