03 TL and 01 CL motor/trans the same?

I have a wrecked 01 CL and thinking about buying a 03 TL to swap my motor and fresh built transmission in.They look like a perfect match, but i wanted to double check.

The CL is type s and TL is base,so i'll be putting a type s motor in a base TL.It's just going to be used as a daily driver.

It will work but you will need the S ECU and some wiring for the IMRC

^ he should have te ecu and all the wiring from his wrecked 01 cl. All he should need is something to control the IMRC like the msd switch

Hey MS225, shouldn't be overly tough for a seasoned mechanic. The real advantage here is to have the donor car nearby. As always, the proper tools and understanding the task at hand will be the key to the overall ease and success of the swap. One suggestion would be to label things and have a service manual available.

If you've never done this before, either get an experienced friend to assist or sub it out !

Very easy swap. Another option is to just put in the type S engine and keep everything stock in the TL. The car will still think it's a base TL, but the type S engine will give some gains.

Otherwise, you will have to get a new ECU and wiring. The CL stuff might not work in the TL.

Having the cars side by side is a huge advantage. I'd strip both down of all the parts I needed out and was going in. That way before you start converting it you can take stock of what you have, give a thorough inspection of all the parts, and take the time to put it together carefully and correctly the first time!

I would rather swap out the drivers side engine compt to cabin harness and use the stock IMRC controller.

Might want to end up pulling the TCS bulb if it bothers you. I doubt you'll get TCS working being that the type S has VSA.

It's been a month with no issues besides loose battery terminals.I just got off a long turnaround and just been driving it to the grocery store and gym.Its been hard working on this and my Camaro at the same time.
