02 TL-S - check engine light and VSA came on....

This is the third time this happened this month. I went to the dealer the first time and they said I needed to change 1 spark plug and coil #1. So I did. The other 5 spark plugs are already new.

Then the lights came back 2 weeks later. Turns out the others misfired, I believe is how they described it. I replaced all remaining coils and got an induction flush because it was really dirty inside. I has an aftermarket intake in my car for 5 years and the last 2 I didnt clean the filter. The intake also had a hole. I had a feeling that was coming. My mistake. I got the stock back installed. I also got my rear motor mount replaced because it was broken.

My lights came back on again last night but just the check engine light. Now what can be wrong.

The car has 91k miles

Take the spark plugs out and check for carbonation around the electrodes. It should be white if it's good. Or there will be carbon around it if it's bad.

go to a parts store and ask for a code reading- its free
from the codes we can make better diagnosis

did you reset the ecu after coil install?
how is the car running?

Isn't the dealer suppose to reset the ecu for me? Or do I have to? Is it easy to do? I will check my invoice if they did.

Car is running better.. Sunday it jerk between gears. Only happened once. Didn't happen again. Then today the gear shifting stalled for a couple of millisec. I can't remember if from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. Again only once. Didn't happen again.

Would Autozone be able to get the codes? Or it have to be an idependent parts shop?

if the dealer installed the coils they reset the ECU for you
for referance all you do is pull the CLOCK fuse on passenger end of dash for 1 minute

zone is fine for getting codes

Tranny failed

Ok. Just came back from the dealer and the problem is my transmission. It failed. So basically I have to get a new one.

DTC Troubleshooting: P0740 (40)
Replace the transmission and torque converter

The service advisor told me to call Acura Corp and complain (in an upset manner) that 99% of the time I got my car serviced at the dealer, I use mobil 1 synthetic oil, I got the transmission flush done and also the recall back in 2005 and now I have to get my transmission replaced? Basically tell them why if I take care of my car and it suppose to be an Acura. It only has 91k miles and it's an 2002.

Hopefully Acura can help me out becaues it's a little over 6k.

Now I'm not sure what to do. Need some advice. I would like if Acura can help me out by bringing down at least half or more of the cost then I would replace but If Acura can't help that much then I might get a new car. But not sure. I'm really not happy about monthly payments again. I'm trying to save to get a place next year. What you think?

If I do get a new car I would get a 2008 TL-S or a 2011 TSX. I Just drove home a 2011 TSX loaner and it's a very nice car. But I will miss the power of a TL-S.

6!! they are really highballing you to start, so any break seems like a major assist

you have the common clutch pack failure- which is not related to the recall part install in any way!

based on service of trans history and low miles, tell them you want to pay no more than $1000 with a 3/36 warranty,,you have to give Corp a number to work with- otherwise they guess what will make you happy

if they come back with 2500- thats equal to rebuild at local shop with warranty and is a reasonable deal
Sadly if it had failed a few years earlier for you- it would have been free replacement

the SW is a dimwit WHO GETS PAID ON COMMISSION--how hard are they really working to reduce your price? and telling you to call corp and be pissed- worst idea ever!!!!!
tell their manager!!!!

speak with the dealers SERVICE MANAGER directly
ask them to call corp on your behalf--thats who is allowed to make that call

they call the local regional warranty rep and detail your good customer service history.
trans fluid change being more important than m1 in the engine~
but overall good history with dealer- , meaning they make money off you

it can get approved at that level, sometimes it has to go up a few managers to get what you want,,might take a couple days,, but worth it!

IF they refuse to help or seem to do nothing- tell you corp rep wont do anything for you,,
THEN you assemble your receipts and detailed letter to real corp headquarters in LA
you can fax the info and call them
real corp hates to be bothered with these things that should have been resolved below them--they know the internet is a powerful tool of public perception
mention thread on problem is active on acurazine!

BE NICE to the 800 phone person and all the acura people-
the first one is just answering phones and has zero authority to do anything but read from `The Book of NO!`
a real manager reviews paperwork and calls dealer to see whats the story- calls you back,,,

recall to install an external mounted oil sprayer,
and court ordered extended warranty are seperate issues.. and from differant part of the trans!!

it eventually became 7 years+9 months or 109kmiles (whichever first) from date sold new off dealer lot. (114kmiles if odometer error Vin cars)

there was a cutoff VIN used to settle the court case and get on with the replacements- refund customers who were forced to pay full price at 51kmiles !!

IT WAS NOT a fix to the trans at that number
cars after that vin had to rely on `Goodwill` from corp, based on buying new cars and service history with dealer
to get a freebie or way reduced price

Im not surprised the sw said not to mention their name or actions
they are not doing their job- should have gone to SM,,based on your excellent customer history
Also telling you to be pised off with corp is a recipe for failure

Then again,,its the slowest months of the year for every auto shop
bonus cks may or may not happen,,,your 6k$ for a job they may have to do at near cost,,,only making real money off the labor they do get to charge you = not a happy service writer

get down and meet in person with the manager,,call them direct first and set a time to discuss a Goodwill application on your trans.
If they wont or give you stalling bs, go the the dealerships GENERAL MANAGER who is responsible for every single thing that happens there

I called Acura corp today and made a claim. The manager will call me tomorrow to discuss more on the issue. Get this the service advisor that has been helping me all month is no longer with company. Someone else called me this morning from the dealer to ask what my decision was. I asked about the advisor and that's when he told me. Can you believe that.

Tell them lower price. Lol
When I asked, the dealer quoted me a price of like 4300
I asked for corporate's number they gave me the run around, I think if I pressed the guy a bit more he would have helped me, but my car had a tranny that was slipping that was replaced about 5 years 60,000 miles previous.
Anyhow dealer went down as low as 3500ish installed. Can't remember the exact number.
I did it myself for about 1700. Ehh...

I have a question: I have the comptech headers installed and since I'm getting a new transmission do the headers get installed again or I have to tell them??? Are they apart of the transmission. Since everything will be rebuilt from stock. Just curious.

I don't understand your question.

If you're asking: Do they have to remove the headers to replace the tranny, then NO they do not need to remove the actual header. They do have to remove the down pipe (the part that actually gets hit because of lowered cars, parking blocks etc). Which is after the header.
