‘99 TL J35 Plans

What’s up guys. I just picked up a ‘99 TL with a bum transmission. The car has a great interior/exterior and was pretty cheap so I plan to turn it into a fun budget daily. I plan to keep it auto so the gf can drive as well. First car was a AV6 J30a4 so I’m no stranger to j engines and I do all my own wrenching. I’ve got a line on a cheap J35a3 with decent miles and an ‘06 odyssey transmission. I’ve searched for a while and have been reading tons of threads on here but still have some questions about doing this swap, especially on a ‘99:

1) I found a very cheap crashed auto CL-S. Can I use the harness, sub harness, transmission harness, ECU, gauges, and shifter from this without any problems? Aka is this plug and play? And if not what harness/ECU solution would be?
2) Other than the engine, transmission, and parts mentioned above do I need anything else to make this work seamlessly?

Really appreciate the input guys. Thanks!

So after further review the parts list to go from '99 TL base to J35 TL auto plug and play includes:

J35A3 w/ all stock MDX injectors/coils/etc. (or J35A4 -- no forged crank though)
06-07 AV6 or 05-06 Odyssey transmission
New torque converter
CL-S/TL-S auto ecu + Keys
CL-S/TL-S engine wire harness
CL-S/TL-S driver engine bay harness
CL-S/TL-S passenger engine bay harness
CL-S/TL-S upper dash harness
CL-S/TL-S lower dash harness
CL-S/TL-S transmission harness
CL-S/TL-S ignition w/ nearby immobilizer module
CL-S/TL-S gauges
CL-S/TL-S shifter assembly
CL-S fusebox?

New fluids/gaskets/seals

I think this should allow for full functionality/maintaining all stock functions with the upgraded engine/trans. PLEASE chime in if you know of something missing or incorrect!

If these parts are available for a reasonable price you could have an Auto '99 TL Type-S J35A3:

Swap just the J32A2 cams OR the entire cylinder heads to the J35A3 to take advantage of the 1mm larger J32A2 intake valves and updated lost motion assemblies.

You could also swap the J32A2 intake manifold; IMRC module; IMRC IM components from a CL-S / TL-S.

If you want the hood to fully close, you'll most likely need to remove the IM spacer that comes with the J35A3.

It also looks like you'll need to keep the 99 TL water connecting pipe and water passage because they have different connection points.

Good Luck!

Thanks a lot man. Car included it should be about 2-2.5K to do. I’ll update this with a definitive list after I break things down and get into it. That way all the info is in one place.

Just an FYI.

One other thing you might consider, if you can find the parts, is to convert to the '03 CL-S E-Brake center console system.

When you have time, check out the thread below:

https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...-chime-988553/

Also, even though there is a thread here that outlines what to use, parts wise for the AV6 tranny swap, I like your idea of having the parts concisely listed in one place for your Ody trans swap.
