Need more info on a swap
Hi, im new to this forum n i need more info. I have a 99 tL with blown motor n i'm planing on swaping it out for a j32a2 motor out of a 03 type s. I was wondering if i can still use my stock harness n ecu. i know tranny bolts right up. Do i have to swap some sensor out. Im hoping someone can help me out?
First thing this is a forum we are not getting paid to answer post right away be patient it might take some time. Now you can not switch ecu since you have a 4 speed auto youcan not use a type a ecu. It will search for 5 gears and you will only have four causing it to run in safety mode( no vtec). From what I read before you just use your wiring harness and ecu
2 hours on a saturday and you are whining about no help???
gratitude really speeds the process!
never heard of anyone going up a year with a 99
several things are different starting with 2000 model year
you have a 4 speed auto? spark plug wires or coil on plug? (not sure when that change occured)
easier to get another 99 engine or rebuild yours or find a nice toyota

a junkyard motor is possible but risky on a 99,,its old and been sitting,,never a good combo
ck places like oroeilly auto parts for complete engine, or local rebuilders that do exchange of unit,,add your manifolds and install

Hey Vang Peter, you stated that you got the motor to start twice.....which motor ?
Do you still have the original '99 or have you already dropped the '03 "S" motor in ?
You are going to have some extra work and effort, but with some patience, maybe alot......it is possible to upgrade. It'll definitely require some added research, time and skill on your behalf.
First off, I'd suggest getting the service manuals to better understand what all is actually involved with this swap and the differences involved between the two motors. There's enough things that could throw you off rather easily in my opinion.
