need the best comfort tire for 05 RL

If I were keeping the factory rims my 1st choice would be Bridgestone Serenity and 2nd choice would be Toyo Versado LX. I think I'm going to 18's pretty soon though... I have 43k miles on oem tires.

RL is a quiet car. I would rather pick something up that handles well in the dry and the rain.
You can start with ContiExtreme's and finish with Bridgestone 960's.
Either one is a great tire, later being more performance oriented and first better in the snow.

unofficial HONDA rep
In oem 17'' size i think they are slightly cheaper than the 18''. i think $220. versus $243. and right now discount tire has a $70. rebate for any set of Michelin's purchased. They also have the Serenity's for $190 i believe and they have free shipping.

I do not disagree with you there. That is why I bought the Continentals, actually, I was also very attracted by the low price, in the $80s at the time, and the tire was probably in the top 3 survey results then.
I think price has everything to do with tire sales, and that the larger the slice of the pie, the greater the tendency is to have better reviews. When I first filled out my survey on the Contis, the result came out around 8+, and I really did not think they were 8's in the experience I had with them, more like 5-6...so I know I skewed the survey up, if only infinitesimally.
Over time, I have noticed that some inexpensive tires have done very well in the survey, noticeably in the Avons, when they first come out. The Avons have now dropped to like 13. I now put more weight on the track tests that Tire Rack performs, rather than the surveys and tire reviews by individual consumers, not that I don't read them, I take them with a grain of salt.
Maybe I got a bad batch of tires. Since Audi/VW, Mercedes, even Honda use Continentals as OEM (granted, not UHPAS tires), they can't be all bad. But my bad experience has put me off of Continentals.

Chas, price is a factor in customer satisfaction and definitely drives the reviews up. An important factor is how many miles are reported by users. More miles means more reviews, which can flatten out the best and worst ratings.
You would actually have to read the reviews to see details such as excessive road noise.
Research, research, and more research.

I have the bridgestone Serenity tires. I've had them on for a little over 1,000 miles so not a lot of history, but I will say that they are way better than the OEM. The ride is quieter and smoother. I've driven them in the snow and rain and have had no issues. Performance in tight cornering has been very good. I think on these boards, the preference seems to be between the Mich A/S, serenity and the versado's. Another factor worth considering is how easy it might be to get a replacement tire if one blows out. The A/S are being discontinued from what I've read here and the versado's are harder to find. Bridgestone is much more widely available.
