So Nav data is off the air and no fix is known right now

I just got a call from my Acura dealer. I left them a message this morning to ask why I wasn't seeing any updates. Apparently they now admit that the most recent update (which was done before I got the car :-) trashed nav updates all together. They don't have a fix yet but we should receive a letter from Acura once they do.

Someone's head got whacked at Acura I'm sure over this snafu. Either they didn't test it right or they tested it just fine but rolled out the TSB even though they knew about the problem. I'm sure the QA guys got blamed before anyone bothered to check the paper trail. I work on QA so I know the whip lashes :-)

I have received the update letter and am planning to take the 2005 RL in next week. I do not believe that the problem with NAVtraffic is due to an earlier update because my car has never had an earlier update (purchased March 2005) and it is experiencing a NAVtraffic problem.

The problem is that NAVtraffic appears on the GPS screen only for about 15 minutes or so and then completely disappears. Even during the time that it shows the NAVtraffic icon, I doubt that there is any NAVtraffic functionality. The dealer said they would apply the latest update to see if that would fix the problem or if this is something totally outside of the current update.

Everything is working fine with my Nav Traffic in Seattle, XM, etc.

There have been zero issues after the TSB fix.

I'll give it a few days and call Acura and the dealer until they tell me the same story.

No - on the POI bar (where you can display various POIs like ATMs, etc. If you do not have NAVTraffic selected on that bar, you will not have NAVTraffic functionality.

I just double checked and nav icons are enabled. I'm going to call XM and see if they even think they are sending nav data to my car.

Called XM *again* and this time they created a private account for me with 1 year credit (car is less than a week old). Now it works fine. Mind you that the first time I called they said navtraffic was enabled. If this happens to you, call again to have someone else confirm it.

Any additional info you guys could point me towards regarding this issue? I've had my RL for 2+ months now, spoken to XM 2 dozen times, been to Acura 3 times and I'm still having the same problems Nocturnal describes about the traffic options disappearing after 20 minutes, etc.

Have you created your own account at XM? That fixed it for me. This is elsewhere in the forum but you probably haven't seen that yet.

No, I haven't. I've been operating under the assumption that Acura should be able to figure out what's wrong with their automobiles, but I guess I wasn't being realistic. I don't think these guys could open a door without instructions.

I'll look into the XM account suggestion.

One more question which I'm sure has been answered already; I live 150+ miles away from the NYC metro area, I only travel into the city 2-3 times per week, according to XM I should still be able to scroll over to the city and see traffic info - can anyone confirm that?

Thanks everyone.

If you've read the forums you'd know very few people had their nav system actually fixed by the dealer if they didn't get it right the first time. So taking matters into your own hand is the thing to do. It's free besides a few minutes of your time.

Regarding the other thing. It should work fine. You'll know once you get your system patched up. I think at least one member here looked at far away traffic data and saw it just fine. I haven't tried to see LA traffic for example.

There Was Faults With Nav Traffic, Acura Is Being Responsible To Replace The Hardware. When Id Is Transferred Xm Computers Lose Data After About 2 Days. The Backdoor Fix Is For Dealer To Call Xm And Have Tech Manually Insert Id Number Into Data Bank. This Seems To Have Fixed 100% Of My Dealers Issues With Real Time Traffic. Modern Technology Is Great Isn1t It. Dont Get Your Panties In A Bind. How Many 5k Dollar Computers Need Updates As Soon As You Turn It On?

No offense Mark Wolf - but might I ask why you capitalize the first letter of each word? At least it isn't all in caps, just somewhat of an annoyance. No big deal though.

But anyways, yes you are correct, the best thing to do is have the dealer call XM and have them manually instert the radio ID into the computer.

Agreed. Please out of courtesy for the other members type without doing that, or perhaps no caps at all.

And the extra effort involved to do it must mean you're doing it on purpose for some reason. But yeah, it's pretty annoying

DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO? YOU WANT SOME TECH INFO? I`VE GOT IT. IF MY TYPING BOTHERS YOU , SORRY. YOU CAN SIT AT YOUR COMPUTER ALL DAY AND GO IN CIRCLES AND NEVER GET ANYTHING ACCOMPLISHED. I THOUGHT FORUMS WERE FOR RECIEVING INFO, I GUESS NOT. EVERONE COMPLAINS THEY SPENT 50K FOR A CAR. SO WHAT. I CHECKED OUT THIS FORUM ON THE ADVICE OF A CUSTOMER AND ITS ONLY TEMPORARY. BUGS HAPPEN IN THE HIGH TECH WORLD, EXPECT IT IN A FIRST MODEL YEAR CAR. FUNNY, I DON`T HEAR ANY ISSUES ABOUT THE MECHANICAL BEAUTY OF THIS CAR. I DO HEAR ALOT OF NOISE ABOUT SOFTWARE PROBLEMS.
DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO CONVINCE A SINGULAR EXCECUTIVE THAT THE BLUTOOTH PROBLEM IS WITH HIS PHONE AND NOT HIS CAR. WHAT`S WORSE IS WHEN THERE IS A PATCH ON HIS OWN WEBSITE TO FIX IT.

Why are we talking about problems whit your Cingular phone here? Please open a new thread for discussion on the phone. Just to let you know - Cingular and most cell phone carriers don't really care if their phones work with our cars or not. That is why we have to test the phones before hand or take advantage of their money back guarantee to swap out the phone for one that works. There is a thread at the top of the audio/electronics subforum with a list of all the compatible BT phones.

I just purchased a 06 RL on 11/15. I have the same problem, the traffic incident and icons disappears after 20 minutes of driving. I brought it to the dealer and they don't know how to fix it. I am in Massachusetts.....can anyone tell me what I need to tell the service rep??? Thanks in advance.

My issue was fixed by the dealer in West Chester Pennsylvania. I am not exactly sure what they did but I do know that they were in touch with "engineering" at Acura. If your dealer wants to talk to this dealer, they should call Piazza Acura.

Good luck.

I called XM and had them send refresh in 2 different occasions....and nothing. The navtraffic bars still disappears after 20 minutes of driving.

Mark,
I just wanted to say thank you for all your helpful information. It amazes me that people find it necessary to pick apart the delivery. Whether you Use Caps or NOT, the fact that you take time from your schedule to share knowledge with us is appreciated. I was in your dealership and my friend Andy (who I have known for 20 years) told me you were the best mechanic they had. He made a point to find you and introduce you to me. I was impressed that you would take the time then as well.
Regards,
Jimmy
