Newbe with lots of questions

My son just bought this car for cheap and I'm trying to get it going for him. Nav screen does not come on? It appears the screen is back-lit grey. I can't control anything. Stereo does play but that's it. That's first and then I guess I begin addressing the Christmas tree on the dash. What has he gotten me in to????

Nav screen is likely the cpu in the trunk. You can get one from Ebay for not that much money. The Christmas tree can be many things. Gonna need a pic of the tree or a good description.

AFS will probably be the level sensor in the rear left wheel well. You can get a replacement sensor for $20 if you want to keep the auto-leveling part of the system or replace it with 2 2250K ohm resistors if you don't want to replace it anymore barring the connector isn't corroded/destroyed. They go bad a lot. SH-AWD might be connected to the ABS light. Airbag might be buckle switch or something else. Can't tell too well without a scan tool/D.T.C.s. DRL is weird. I'll have to look in the SM to see what would cause that. Your best bet would be to get the Autel AP200 scan tool and use it with your smartphone to get the trouble codes. Costs about $50-80 and can read most if not all the modules in this car. It'd also help a lot in diagnosing it. You get one manufacturer free and can choose to pay for others on a yearly basis. The service past due thing is just the maintenance minder. Basically a dummy light to tell you what services you need and when. Has to be reset with every oil change. Just ignore it for now and see if there are any service records on this thing since it sounds like the people who worked on it never reset the minder. Sounds like your son bought himself one hell of a project car.

Thanks

Thank you so much. And yes he bought a project car. MY PROJECT! He only bought it cause they told him the a/c worked. Paid 500 bucks.we live in Texas. After research, I'm really fascinated with this car and the technology put into it. I'm a car guy, but never dealt with one of these things. Interesting to say the least. Again, thanks for the direction on solutions.

Dvd power and??

Removed dvd today. Opened up and not spinning. Probed wires and cant find power? Fuses all check good. Level sensor removed. It's toast. So, what's the resistor trick? Shedding some of these problem causers wouldn't hurt me at all!

Here is the resistor trick. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2.../#post15326306. Also, a lot of the fixes are in the "sticky" section. I'll provide a link if ya need it. Maybe check where you are grounding? Off memory, there aren't too many good grounds in that area to use the probe. If that isn't it then find the break in the wire. Maybe see if you can put power to the unit to see if it starts?

Thanks again. I'm old and not too good at this forum thing. Trying to figure this out. But the info is invaluable. I just finished a v8 s10 swap and I thought the injector wiring was a nightmare.

Rephrasing

Its alright. Guessing you swapped a LS or and SBC into the S10? Not too good with my knowledge on domestics. The theory is pretty easy once you understand that electronics are actually pretty simple. Working on it on the other hand...

It's not LS, been building small blocks for 50 years. Just wanted my old S10 to run a little better, sound a lot better, and be fun to drive. All 3 done. Good to go! A project to keep an old man out of mommas hair! Winner!
