NavTraffic features

I have an 05 RL and a 10 MDX and the NavTraffic features on the MDX are way better. My RL shows traffic flow, of course it's incorrect but that is a different discussion, and my MDX ALSO shows road closures with a "no entry" icon. I do not have the no entry icon on my 05 RL so at 3AM there is no traffic slowing (because there isn't any traffic) but the whole freeway is closed for maintenance and there is no indication on my NavTraffic.
Do others of later vintage have the additional info or is it a feature of the new HDD based system?

What version of navigation DVD are you using? My 2006 came with 4.31C, but I think that since the upgrade to 4.62, has shown no entry icons

Old software disc may be your issue...but read the recent threads on upgrading....in particular, read post #85 to see whether you need the one or two disc upgrade...
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=797125&page=3

And read post #120 is you are version 4.2x or less, and can get your hands on a free 4.3x, you may be be able to get away with the 1 disc upgrade.

Actually Chas he is correct. Newer Acura's with HDD Nav system have more Nav features like actual road closures and faster traffic refreshes than older DVD based Nav systems. Unfortunately, these features are not supported on RLs, even if you update the Nav disc.

This is why I hate getting loaner cars from the dealer. They always give me a 4th gen TL or '10 MDX with Nav and I start to notice how much better the HDD Nav system is.

Thank you. BTW My Nav disc is new in the RL and the HDD is significantly different in the MDX. If a new DVD gave you these features then it would be worth it but just to add a few POV's and streets in cities that I will never go to is a rip.

You're comparing your RL with a car that is 10 years newer?! That's light years with respect to technology. If you compare your RL's navi with that of a first gen RL imagine the difference! In five year your MDX will look ancient compared to the '15 or '16 MDX. I guess my question is what's the point of the comparison? It's not a fair one.

The RL was called a Best Buy on wheels when in was introduced in the fall of 2004. Keep in mind that for it to make it in production in 2004, that technology was being developed at the beginning of this decade.

With closed roads, I noticed soemthing interesting this year when they were closing entire stretches of I-96 in metro Detroit. As you stated, the traffic showed that it was backed up leading up to the closed section of road, but after that there was no flow at all being displayed where it normally does. In other words instead of there being a Green, Yellow or Red indicator, there was nothing.

QUOTE]If I have a receiver (XM module), a processor (interface) and a display unit then the the features in question could be accomodated with software. A new (and expensive) DVD should add features not just an additional cafe down the road.
If you bought Windows 7 for $188 and upgraded from XP would you expect it to be the same except for a few printer drivers that you will never use?
My point is that these systems should be upgradable for newer features and ammenities not hard coded to build in obsolesence.

True, but then you wouldn't be longing for the latest and greatest.

I think upgradeable firmware with additional features and content is not that far in the future. You 'll be able to connect to the internet and download the latest.

Here is where i dont follow. Whats a updated disc have to do with what xm sends to you cars radio. Its like saying one needs new firmware when xm adds or shuffles channels around which u dont.

The perfect example is the "No Entry" icon as described in original post. XM does not send the icon to the Navi. Rather, XM sends data that the road is closed. The older Nav versions do not know how to interpret the new type of data and do not have that icon stored on the disc.
