Keep an eye on your XM account - CC warning

I renewed the XM and Nav traffic on my '06 RL in Sept. 08. Paid one year upfront. Got my recent CC statement this week and there is a $42.06 charge for XM. Called yesterday and talked to "Tiffany" CS rep. Sg=he told me the charge was for quarterly use. I explained I paid full year charge upfront in Sept. - she looked at my acount and stated Nav traffic was paid in full but XM was quarterly. Now, how can you have Nav without XM? I went home and pulled out my statement - yep, paid one year full for XM and Nav traffic. Called back this morning and spoke to another rep - must use same CS reps as Dell (hard to understand) - she pulled up my account and immediately saw both XM and Nav was paid for one year. That 'other' rep flat out lied to me. Am suppose to get dredit tonight but will see. I also asked to not do auto-debit from CC, I will pay each year IF I decide to keep. I was told this is not an option. BS, total BS. I have filed a complaint to the BBB and XM. Was also told FCC has nothing to do with satellite radio - can' file complaint there. Anyway, buyer beware.

Welcome to XM.

After receiving the "ultimatum" email blast today ("pay now or else we'll gouge you on increased pricing later), I cancelled XM on my RDX.

FXM.

Same thing happened to my wife. She paid upfront for the year and was billed recently for a quarterly charge. Same BS when she called in.

XM will not be able to auto-renew me when my (third) $77 promo expires. I received a new credit card from BoA since my card was due to expire at the end of March and the card number has changed. I'm done with XM after this due to all the shady billing crap they've been pulling.

This is what I was saying on the other site, they are hurting and this is their last way to get money.
I had issues also.

So, wait, you are upset that they made a billing mistake, and yet you have been getting the service for basically half price for three years?

Sure, they need to get their billing in order. I agree completely if they are having problems. However, the service they offer is great, in my opinion, and it isn't available anywhere else.

I'm not "getting the service for half price" - I'm getting the service for what XM is willing to sell it to me for. If they didn't want to give me the $77 rate they wouldn't. And they aren't "billing mistakes" - it's happening to many people in the midst of XM's financial troubles.

Search the thread pinned above about XM before spouting off.

I'm betting their billing practice comes from the Sirius side of the business which was as close to criminal as can be.

Interesting. Either way they won't be getting another penny from me or my wife after our current subscriptions expire.

I'm nervous about XM now.. I have a 3 month free period that ends March 20 and definitely want to keep satellite radio, I absolutely love it, but not if I gotta get ripped off/call them and complain all the time.

Please realize that people who have had a bad experience are more likely to post than those who have not...

There also tends to be a bit of a piling on effect when folks post on the internet.

So...while you're reading from a relatively few people who either a) had an issue or b) who are general complainers or whiners, realize that the majority of subscribers have been perfectly happy with XM.

Count me among them. I'm on the tail end of the 3 year subscription I bought early on. Now, will I take advantage of the "lifetime" subscription they recently offered me? Nope. Am I worried about their financial situation? Yep. Big companies are folding everywhere these days.

Aside from a bit of a wait time when I called in recently to remove one radio and activate its replacement, XM has been a very good experience for me...

Automatic renewals via credit card are a fairly common thing. As a consumer, you have to be aware enough to realize when your subscription is coming due and/or "opt out" of automatic renewals right up front when you give them your cc info.

honesty guys, XM is worth150 a year. The signal and broadcasting is superior to standard FM or AM if you even consider that an option.

We are spoiled into paying a reduced rate, which has been great. XM has put a ton of money in infrastructure (satelights in the sky) and they don't have enough revenue coming in to pay the debt load and programming and make money.

If is a big enough of an operation that it will emerge from its upcoming bankruptcy, but they will need to find a way to cut costs while increasing revenues during these tough times.

This automatic reactivation is one of those methods that they use to passively increase their revenue.

I've been using XM for 3 years and have not had any billing problems. I too selected the annual pre-pay plans to get the great savings. They way their pricing plans work is an annual prepayment (i.e. 12 months) with monthly billing (approx. $15/mo for XM with nav) once the annual prepayment expires. If you don't like monthly pricing plans you can talk to the sales team about new deals or cancel the service. To me their service is worth the price, but that's just my POV.

These guys are on their last legs, I too love the xm radio, however I can make due without when they are doing desperate things causing me grief.
They care more about a few dollars rather than keeping customers, this tells me they are going under, with their debt something has to happen. You may be fine but just be super cautious.
