I know it's been discussed, but who has actually done a DVD video install?

I'm getting close to doing this. I know it won't be able to utilize the true surround sound like a DVD-audio disc does since it will be an AUX sound input, but I still want this feature. On my wife's Infiniti M it's something I miss in my car after driving hers... especially when my daughter is in it with me!

Anyway, has anyone done it yet??

From what I understand, I would utilize the same video input as the backup camera and the same audio input as the i-pod input. I'd then have my DVD player in the glove compartment or somewhere (trunk?) or whatever. The details I will figure out with the car stereo experts at my local store.

I have done this. I am using a mediagate and also my ipod for watching videos right now. But I will also install a single DIN mobile DVD player in the trunk when I find a good one.

Can you tell us what hardware you used? The USASpec with DOMs TVandNav2Go? Also, do you have any pictures? Thanks!

I did use the USASpec with DOM's unit, works great! I don't really have any pictures so to speak. I hid the Mediagate under the rear seat so I can get to it easily to download new media to it. In other posts on here I do have pictures of how I mounted my iPod on a movable arm so I can access it and quickly swing it out of the way. I mounted the IR repeater that you need in order to use the Mediagate while it is hidden right next to the mount for my iPod. Completely hidden and out of the way.

sorry for the questions... one last one. On a scale of 1 to 10... how would you rate the dvd video quality?

Thanks!

I would rate it fairly well once you get all of the adjustments dialed in. I am pretty happy with it although you will notice that the display is a tiny bit hard to see in certain situations.

Thanks for the post!!

I think you are literally the first one to do it. I don't have an ipod and don't plan on getting one. Any suggestions for someone just doing a DVD player install? How is the audio quality given we can't take full advantage of the surround sound?

I am working through my DVD player ideas right now so I don't have really any suggestions. One thing I have considered is an XBOX Media Centeror XBMC but I would have to find a descent and clean power converter.

As for the sound, it's perfect. What you have to remember is nothing outside of a 5.1 DVD-A playing from within the factory headunit will ever take advantage of the 5.1 surround. The headunit does not have a digital input.

The main reason I have not taken pictures of the screen yet is the only thing I have loaded on my mediagate right now is some porn that my girlfriend downloaded from the Internet. The quality is not that good as you can imagine. I need to find a DVD player I am happy with and install it or burn some quality movies onto my Mediagate. Other than that all the posts over on the TL site represent it pretty well. If you guys are cool with me posting some scandalous material I will gladly do so...synth...is that cool with you?
