having to manually connect to HANDSFREELINK
having to manually connect to HANDSFREELINK
...I just bought a new phone....MOTOROLA RAZR HD MAXX
my former phone integrated to my RL HANDSFREE Link just fine.
The phone is pairing but the problem seems to be when I make a call from the handset while connecting the icon changes from "bluetooth" to "handset" so then I have to manually press that button again to get the dropdown box and choose "bluetooth" to transfer the call back thru HANDSLink.
when I paired my MOTOROLA bluetooth earpiece headset my phone didn't do this and stayed on bluetooth
any ideas?

I really could have sworn with my older phone as long as the phone was "connected" to the bluetooth even if I initiated a call from handset it stayed on the handsfree unless I changed it.....I could be wrong...
because my '07 RL doesn't integrate the phonebook I usually start my calls via the handset

ya know u are probably right....I do recall at times with my old phone having to hit the bluetooth tab........I guess since most of my calls are received and/or in the internal HANDSfreelink phonebook I didn't notice it too much

another issue
ok,
I'm starting to think there is an issue as driving to work I finally got my first incoming call in the car with my new phone...
unlike my old phone the handsfree link after hearing the verbal prompt "you have an incoming call" automatically picked up the call without giving me any option not to pick it up. This is not good for me as sometimes I don't want to pickup that call necessarily.
I looked on my phone for any "auto-answer" feature but don't see anything.
any ideas as this could get annoying.

I know i'm beating a dead horse here but i still think there's a bug somewhere....
i'm sitting here in my office with a bluetooth headset on and even when beginning a call via the handset it "knows" i'm on the bluetooth and the call connects via bluetooth...
conversely, if i'm connected to HANDSFREE LINK in my vehicle and I begin a call via the handset it says "bluetooth" for a moment on the handset before changing to "handset" and then I have to manually hit a dropdown box and hit "bluetooth" to hear the call over the bluetooth in my RL.

Yes, I think you are beating a dead horsse. IMO, the behavior is by design. If you initiate call from handset, it assumes you want that call private. Yet, there is a quick voice command (i.e., transfer) to transfer to HFL without "manually" doing anything on the handset.
Its always worked this way.
The difference between HFL and a bluetooth ear piece is the ear piece is private. Thus, initiating call from hand set with ear piece engaged would obviously go to ear piece.
I think Acura got this one right
OP claims his other phone did not do this
. I chalk it up to Acura having to design a system that will work with technology that can hardly be predicted, but I do think your idea makes sense.

Your issue is with your android operating system. With the recent Jellybean update my phone/HFL connection has the exact same issue. Worked before the latest update when dialing from phone and BT on. Automatically switched to HFL and talked through car's system. When I got the recent upgrade, which RAZR HD Maxx has, the issue you describe started for me. Never prior and I owned the car from new (06). Many phones, android and not in the beginning and this is the first time this has come up. It started the day I got the most recent upgrade to Jellybean.
Find a friend with android Ice Cream Sandwich system (or below) and pair the phone. HFL will work with a call initiated by phone dialing if BT is on and phone is paired.
I have found no solution others that the reconnection of BT on the phone after I initiate the call. Not desirable at all for me, but it is what it is.

Interesting, now my Android is working just the opposite after a recent update.
Before, if I initiated call from phone, I had to use transfer command to move it to HFL.
Now, initiating call from phone automatically engages HFL. This is the 4th phone I've had and every phone worked the same way including this one up until the update, that is requiring Transfer command.
