difference between 2006 and 2007 Back-up Cam
Hi I am in the market to buy a 2006 RL and i doubt i will find one that already has the Back-up Cam installed. I am not sure if they used the same Camera thats in the 06 RL in the 07 or if they used a different one and if they did use a different one is there a difference in quality. I also want to know 2 more things. First, will the dealer still install a factory Back-up Cam in my 06 RL and Second, will they install the Cam thats used in the 07 RL or the 06 RL IF there is a difference. I tried the search function but no luck. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2006 with the backup cam added by the dealer upon delivery. I have since looked over the 2007 RL with camera. From what I see they operate the same way and I was told the components are the same with the exception of the trunk mount for the camera and the touch release mechanism for the trunk lid.
On my 2006 RL the camera lense is centered above the tag, and barely noticable. However, the touch release lever for the trunk lid was removed for this center mount camera, and replaced with a small 'dimple' that was placed to the right of center (under the chrome trim strip where the tag lights are). Touching this dimple, now operates the trunk release when the transmitter is on you. It is not as easy to feel for as the lever, but once you know where it is, no biggie.
On the 2007 RL, the original trunk release lever is retained at center and the camera, instead is mounted just off center. The mounting bracket for the camera lense is slightly less discreet.
Otherwise, from inside, to me, they appear to operate identically.

The dealer will install a backup camera in an '06 RL. Mine was installed three months after I purchased the car.

What kind of warranty did they give you on the Cam?
Thanx Tampa for your reply.
