'07 Navigation System
Several weeks after populating my address book, all entries simply disappeared. The next day, all the entries reappeared. This has happened twice now. Anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks. I am the only one who drives the car, and so I do not think it is the fob, unless, as you suggest, it became "unlinked." What would cause this unlinking effect?
Well, I think we can end this discussion right here and now, with an apology on my part. After reading SSIM3's analysis, it was right on the mark.
I called my wife and asked if, by chance, she had her fob with her on our trip. She said that she did have it, in the event she had to drive. While she did not drive, she was the first to enter the car on several occasions. Since she had no addresses programmed in the address book, it appeared empty. When I entered the car first, the system recognized me as the driver and the address book appeared perfectly populated. Thanks to SSIM3 for enlightening me on the modus operandi.
My wife did that also on our 1st trip, but it was such a pain that all xm presets would be lost & all of the customized start up menu items I had done did not function. So she now does not take a fob on a trip with us. The good thing is you cannot lock your keys in the car, but you are sol if you lose a fob. Hopefully this will never happen.
if FOB2 unlocks car (by driver 2 getting there first) and FOB1 is driver, just press Mem1 and FOB1 settings are reset. Easy to notice if this happens because Mem2 on door will be lit and display says "Welcome Driver2"
That said, I am not completely sure that this includes the audio settings.

For what it's worth, I had this problem a few weeks ago--all addresses disappeared, then reappeared the next day, then disappeared for good the day after. To make sure it wasn't a fob issue, I tried adding an entry, then shutting off the car and then restarting--the new entry was also gone. To make a long story short, even though the nav system seemed to work in all other respects, it turned out that it had developed a very specific hardware problem, and the dealer ended up replacing it. All is now well, though I have to start entering addresses all over again...
Another sign that there was some kind of hardware problem going on: a couple of months earlier, the synthesized voice that reads nav system text (not the high quality recorded voice used for the standard vocabulary, but the voice used for general text, such as when reading messages to you) had gone from a decent quality synthetic voice to a much lower quality, "squeaky" one. The replacement nav system also took care of this one.
