Chime in this may be a boon if it works

I was reading through this thread as it states yo can connect a camera directly to the NAV ECU in the trunk. Can some one tell me if this works for our RL also.

PS. I tried buying navtool but it looks like very hard to get a navtool from the company. They do not respond at all to any questions or calls. I am trying to figure out a different route.

I do not want to use the factory camera because it does not show line which are very imp because I am going to give my car to my better half pretty soon.

NAVTOOL is hard to get, but its a great product. I wish i could hook up a USB to the RL for video and music.

don't know what year you have but i have an 05 and there is no factory backup cam oem option.
i bought dom's nav2go plug n play unit and installed it and the camera myself.

if you want the grid lines then buy a cam with one built in. there's a very good one that one of azine members have posted

but once again......it depends on what year your rl is.......

I have a 2006 RL. I am planning to buy the navtool but it is really hard to get one. I think I will go with the Doms unit. Can you tell me how hard it is to install the Doms unit and was there any splicing involved. It will be great if you can provide some info about installation.

i used the installation instructions from the tl forum
i mounted the dom unit on the left side wall of the trunk
ran the DOM unit power under the seat and under the carpeting to the port located in the center console bin (used the center console removal instructions for the ipod thread)
snaked the camera wires through the left trunk hinge and installed the camera on the trunk.

Thank you for the instructions. This is really helpful. I will follow these instructions. I am ordering navtool. I dont know if the installation will be similar. I am just worried about the power to the camera. I do not want to tear apart every thing routing the power wire to the center console power outlet. Any instructions will be helpful to route the power wire.

the dom unit power is what I put to the center console.
camera power was handled in the trunk area
i used the wire hanger approach so i didn't rip apart much other than taking out the trunk and lid lining and raising the back seat up a bit to snake the wire under the carpet to the center console.

this is what i used for my research:
