acura server connection it works

I have a 2005 RL C Silver with A Spex suspension and just bought the 18 inch ebony rims. (will be installed on Wednesday)

Anyway wanted to share with those interested, I recently had to upgrade my treo 650 (work phone) to the treo 680 and to my surprise I now view not only the battery strength indicator, but was able to connect to the acura server which was the first time in over (2) years since purchasing this vehicle.

Not sure what being connected to the acura server actually does, but it seems impressive

Acura Connection sends messages about TSBs, service, etc. to your car. What is your wireless provider? Can't be VZW as they disable the ability to link to the service, though there is a workaround I have successfully implemented.

Workaround

NeuronBob--

What is the workaround you have implemented for Verizon? They are my provider and I wish that I could do the same. Thanks.

You can also do it with sprint but you have to have data service for which they want 50 bucks a month, as you can imagine, I have passed on it.

Ive tried and tried with Cingular and have not able to connect with the server. I tried ATT and Cingular settings with the Razr unlocked and even the Dopod (from Taiwan) and can not connect.

I had no problem connecting with an AT&T branded V505, an unlocked RAZR with AT&T mMode settings, and a Cingular branded KRZR with Cingular MediaNet settings. One thing to remember is I don't think you can't connect while the HFL is active - the phone must be paired to the car but you can't be using the HFL while trying to connect to the AcuraLink server. I forgot this when I paired the KRZR for the first time - the car asks you if you want to set up the link at the end of the pairing process but it fails since the HFL is active. Just press the HFL "back" button to leave the HFL application then set up the link through the setup menu.

Your service plan does not include data connection. Call and ask how much it would cost.

As a matter of fact I have that Cingular unlimited data plan with 200 SMS, and actually use a lot of data through 3G internet access, I can email through internet explorer on the phone, update my Avantgo all on the phone wirelessly daily very well. But still I can not connect to the Acura Server.

Unless you mean that I need to subscribe to an Acura product...

Have you checked to see if it works? Most phones Acura has tested do not work with the Acura Link server which is called "Phone Data Connection", although the ones that do tend to be GSM phones. I see you have a RAZR. The Cingular V3 RAZR is certified to work.

The next step is to email Acura client care, and they may be able to give you more info than is on the website.

How to Set Up AcuraLink
Diagnostic Communication
The ’05–06 RL and the ’07 RDX communicate with
the AcuraLink server through the vehicle owner’s
cell phone. To set up this communication, follow
this procedure:
1. Go to www.HandsFreeLink.com, and make
sure the cell phone’s HandsFreeLink (HFL)
profile is compatible with AcuraLink.
2. Make sure the cell phone’s calling plan
supports both voice and data.
3. Refer to the applicable O/M, and pair the cell
phone to the vehicle’s HFL system. When the
pairing is complete, the phone should
automatically connect to the AcuraLink server.
4. If the AcuraLink message screen doesn’t ask
you for permission to send data, go to
AcuraLink/Messages on the navigation
system display screen, and select Connect to
the Acura Server.
5. Follow the screen prompts to connect the
vehicle’s HFL system to the AcuraLink server.

I have a Cingular RAZR V3. When I paired the phone to my RL the HFL asked me if I wanted to make a Data Connection to ACURALINK. I said "yes", and HFL did it automatically (there was an download or upload scroll on the phone screen as it did the connection). After a few seconds the voice prompt stated a confimation the Data Link was complete. The next day I started recieving informational messages from AcuraLink which lasted about 30 days. After that I only got a message when the pax airbag was disabled (backpack on the seat) and a few service appointment reminders (made via Acura's Owner Link website).

I might suggest you clear your phones from HFL and start over. I expect you will get the same prompt I did after you pair the phone. Aside from the pairing, the Data Link connection was automated and voice prompts guided me through.

I don't know about Verizon...I'm with Cingular, but those of you having difficulties connecting might take a look at the following post...my problem is that the connect strings in the Razr didn't match the strings in the Acura. You all might search for the original post by Acurafox, I believe...I refer to it in my postings...

BTW, I decided to change the strings in the RL figuring the phone was set up correctly for data connect by Cingular. Also, when going into the car's menus when looking at data connection, be sure bluetooth is working...or the menu in the car will be blanked out.
