2005 RL Navigation Software Update CD

I'm curious if anyone has the software update CD that comes with the 4.92 disc - I'd like to upgrade to the 4.92, but can't find it anywhere that it comes with the firmware update (besides form acura navi). I'd be happy to pay shipping and send it back to anyone as soon as I've installed it - but does anyone have it?

Thanks! Hopefully this post doesn't break any rules...

Where are you located?

Technically it should be in the black market.

Technically this should be in the Black Market, but I'll leave the thread up for now as the disc you are requesting is long discontinued.

BTW, have you tried the dealer? They might be able to help you on this if you have the 4.92 disc already. Of course, they could also tell you to go pound sand....but it's worth a shot.

Megatron,
I'm running 4.13b, so I'm pretty sure I need the update disc. I can get a copy of the 4.92 for $50 around here, but not with the update disc. I haven't tried the dealer yet, but I'm trying to avoid them as much as I can - they're a new Acura Dealership so most of the time I feel like I'm more familiar with the car than they are...

i had the same exact problem as you. my uncle who is a honda tech got the cd update and did it for me.
recommend u goto acura dealership and say u have problem with "daylight savings clock settings" they have to update your navigation with the same old dvd, once that is done you can pop in the 4.92 and it will auto update. dont tell them your new dvd doesn't work because they will just blame it on the navigation company and tell u to call them and they don't even know whats wrong.
acura is suppose to do the update with the same orignal dvd in your navigation because there was a problem witht he daylight savings clock. thats why all the new dvd update discs don't work if that hasn't been updated yet

hope this helps

as an alternative, obtaining a 4.31 disc (by any means) should update the disc drive to allow the 4.92 disc to work. that's what worked for me.

I updated mine when I bought my RL 2 months ago with the V. 4.92 off torrents, it turned out to be U.S. Version. Its missing everything north of 45th parallel. My car was running the 2006 version of the Nav system b4 the update, I didn't know at that time that I couldn't update directly to 4.92. Am I missing something ?

MTLTL,
I also updated mine from the torren for 4.A2, and it's worked flawlessly... really nice to have the updated data. I had bought 4.81 on ebay a couple of months ago and figured I didn't really have anything to lose as I can always rever to that!

I have two of the "software" upgrade discs for the 2005 RL, both are Version 1.29.00 that came with the most recent 4A2 upgrade disc package.

Yeah, I'm on the original as well, and in need for an upgrade.

I'm thinking buying the V4.A2 package that contains two discs (update disc and the white disc that has the map).

I purchase the dvd upgrade for $150 and it updated fine. This was the only update I made to my navi since I brought my 2005 RL in 2004. Did the update in 15 minutes...

On another note, did you guys see that they now have a Mapcare option to buying updates now? $299 for 3 consecutive years of updates as opposed to $149 each.

What do you guys think? Worth it?

I am assuming you're asking about the DVD Slot in the trunk since this is a map update thread...All you have to do is pull the cover down first revealing the dvd slot...and then press the eject button for it to come out...last time I checked

I know exactly what you are talking about. On some RLs, that Open button to open the cover doesn't do anything. It's a quirk in the design. What you have to do is press and hold that Open button and while holding it, use a small flat screwdriver or other flat blade and pry at the top of the cover and it should pry out and flip down. It's kind of hard to do if you've never done it before, but after a few times, it's quite simple to get it open. Never could figure out how to get the Open button to work like it should though...

AHAHAAH, I had the same thing happen 1x right after I got the car, thought I had broken it because it wouldn't open again, but was able to get it open with little nylon pry tool and holding the open button as described above, but I've never had a problem with it since

First post here after a ton of reading; thanks all! I think I follow this upgrade process, but if someone could confirm, it would be much appreciated. I just purchased a 05' RL with version 4.13. I would like to get to the current V4.A2 or at least 4.92. I understand to do you need to update the firmware. I'm not condoning this but..if a fella found or purchased version 4.31 and loaded it would the firmware be up to date to move up to 2012 V4.A2, or 4.92 without the 2nd software disc?

You saved 43 dollars and have a 2 year old disc, I guess if there were no updates in your area that would be fine.

I'm looking for advice on an irritating problem with my new (2012) NAV disc. BTW, this is in an 05.

Before the update disc (was using 2010), the system gave "perfect" directions. The route always made sense and seemed very effcient. Now that is certainly NOT the case. Even today on a long highway route, the NAV instructed me to take some random exit (which I didn't). Last week it had me exit the highway and take some strange rural road. I've tried each "route method" setting in the setup menu with no success.

It really seems like the new disc is "lost". Any advice?

Yes, there are options like (going by memory): maximize highways, minimize highways, easy route, direct route and avoid tollways.

All stink! With the 2010 map DVD, I left things on easy route. Now it give me the problems I mentioned above. If you select maximize highway, it will take you on some ridiculous route that is longer AND takes more time. The Direct Route takes you through neighborhoods and most residential streets.

This is a major bummer and a waste of $99.00.

So wait....you are on the newest 2012 CD and you are having problems with correct routing. I don't really use my navigation that often and I am downloading a torrent for the 2012 DVD now along with the 4.92 one (not sure if I will have to find a 1.29.00 Firmware Update Disk first) but I don't really want to waste the time if its just going to make things worse.

Yeah, the new map cds and firmware updates might not work as well with our older nav computers. I also d/l that torrent, but my car came with an 09 dvd which is good enough. I will bet that the new maps still don't have local updates in my po-dunk town, so who cares. Major roads and highways don't change much, if at all.

I read that you can have the dealer perform a "daylight savings time fix" and they should update the nav firmware for free. I'm going to try that this week and see if they'll do it. I'm having a hard time believing there's not an iso on the web somewhere, but so far my scouring has turned up empty. If all else fails, I guess I'll just buy the $99 map + update set and see if I can't make an iso to share. If anyone has the update disk, have you tried making a copy? I don't imagine there's any reason for it to be encrypted or protected.

Fail. First the dealer told me that there was no DST fix because it's hard-wired into the satellites or something like that. Then after I showed him TSB 07-022, he wanted $60 to do the update. Might as well get the navi update disk for $40 more (at least while it's on sale).

I tried putting my 2010 DVD back in and received an error on the NAV display. Apparently the firmware update renders the old discs useless.

In my old Ford, there was a routing option called FASTEST. It logically used highways, tollways, residential streets...whatever it needed to get you there the fastest. Why wouldn't that be an option for the RL? I've left mine on EASIEST, but sometimes it still finds some really, really stupid routes.

AND it still doesn't have the street updates I hoped for. I'd encourage you to wait for the next release.

According to the FAQ on navigation.com:

If I'm not happy with my new DVD, can I reinstall my previous disc?
Yes, but your dealer will need to perform the backrev function for you. To avoid possible disappointment with the content of a new DVD, visit your dealer and view the coverage in a similar current production vehicle before you place your order.

I saw the price reduction on the 2012 Nav disc, ver, 4.A2 for $99: http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...4AAAEciiN9YZDi

Is it worth it? I have a 2010 DVD now, not sure if there's any firmware or new software update in the 2012 version. Any advise?

I'd encourage you NOT to upgrade to the 2012 disc. I, too, did this recently (from 2010) and have regretted it ever since. there's absolutely no logic in the routing method. Here's a great example:

I took this picture last week coming home from a business trip (sorry for the poor quality, I was driving).

You can see where I am currently located and LOOK AT THE CRAZY ROUTE. Just based on this picture you can see that there are several more efficient ways for me to get home.
