Anyone know how to replace the wiper blades on an '05? There a site with instructions?

It's in the manual. I reprinted the instructions in this post:

Personally, I found it a bit easier to take the blades off the car. Two screws in each.

has anyone tried the new type of rainX wipers (one piece plastic type)? do those fit on the RLs? I have it on my other cars and it wipes much cleaner (especially during that nasty storm in the Northeast last week)-- and wanted to get it on the RL...

What I have found is there's no aftermarket replacement wiper blade. The best you can do is a wiper refill that will fit in the OEM assembly. Just had to get two new ones for mine foe this wonderful weather in the Berkshires.

I have an 09 RL and stock wipers are horrible. I just ordered 2x PIAA 700mm and 450mm respectively, anyone know if I'll actually be able to install these?

If you bought blades, they won't fit. If you bought the refills, they will. I have PIAA Super Silicone refills on my '06. Clean and silent.

Disconcerting! Looks like the only option is to replace the blades. Good sites to purchase the blades at? What brand?

You can also go to the dealer (Acura or Honda) to get wiper refills. I got a pair for my RL from a Honda dealer earlier today for $7 a blade ($14 total). I was quoted $26 by an Acura dealer yesterday. I am assuming that they would provide installation at that cost.

Self-install of the blades can be a pain in the @#$. If you plan to go that route, be sure to have some nice needle nose pliers to bend back the brackets that hold the blades in place.

How difficult was it installing the PIAA's? Did they exactly fit? Or was a trim required?

Perfect fit out of the package. I also got mine from Autobarn.

Side note...the couple of times I bought refills for my MDX from the dealer, he put them in for free. Only took a few minutes.

No trim needed.
You can destroy the existing when removing as you won't need those again, but be careful not to damage the blade holder. Then just slide the new ones in.

What model year RL do you have? Sorry to be asking so many questions, but I went to Pep Boys two days ago and could not find a single blade that would fit.

'06. I had a lot of noise issues with the wipers when I first got the car. New inserts (Acura), new blades (Acura), TSB, nothing worked. The noise was unbearable in any wet or even damp condition. The dealer was ready to replace the windshield when I tried the PIAA Super Silicone. Not a sound and I'm still on my first set with about 32,000 miles on them. While they're still silent and wipe clean I'll probably change them in the spring. Again, bought the PIAAs at AutoBarn.

What size wiper refills did you get from Autobarn? The passenger side looks like 19 inches but not sure about the drivers side. Thanks!! 07 RL

lland--just stopped by autobarn-- checked the book and it says 24" for driver side and 19 for passenger. I bought the Michelin (blades + holder)-- are you guys saying that you can ONLY change the refills (OMG-- I had a 1987 Acura Legend and it was the same way)-- I have not changed mine yet. So please correct me if I am wrong-- most cars you can just take the snap and unhook the blade and change a new holder+ blade-- I can't do that with the RL? or I have to mess with the refills? oh boy...

It's not that difficult. Put the blades in winter position (explained in the Owners Manual), lift the blades off the windshield, the inserts are captured in the blade with a notch and an end tab so disengage both of those and slide out the old wiper insert. Then you just slide in the new insert, takes about 5 minutes total.

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know if people with wiper problems have noticed that one wiper did not have an even pressure all the way across the blade. Maybe this affects others here?

I have had an issue, especially with my passenger side, where the wipe was not clean, because the center of the blade did not seem to have enough pressure. By not being clean, the center portion of the blade did not fully squeegee off all the water. I finally complained to the dealer, and the service writer said they "tightened down" the center of the wiper. I cannot complain at all about the quality of the wipe at all now. He did not mention the TSB on my 2006, numbered in the 11000's.

I finally took it apart after taking off the two screws...took a look at the arms of the wiper-- wow...you guys are right...michelin, piaa, bosch...whatever you won't be able to find a replacement arm that will screw on...my autobarn here doesn't have the Piaa silicone in stock...great. that will be my "project" over the weekend...

PIAA's work great! The inserts fit like a charm. Foam4me, you're the best! LLAND, you are right...the oem's were extremely noisy compared to the new PIAA's. I'm impressed. Had my first test today with the lovely ice storm we are having here in Texas. The new blades gave a perfect sweep (silently).

After reading this thread I ordered PIAAs from Amazon. Wow! They work great! I had my original wipers changed at the Acura dealer about six months ago but it was not much improvement over the previous wiper blades. These PIAAs are excellent.

Thanks for the suggestion.

PIAAs silicone are the best that I have tried for my self. I've tried Valeo from TireRack and those are garbage.

Thank you very much! This is what I had thought but wanted to make sure. My wipers on my 05 are crap right now! I noticed they dont have the 94070 only the 95070. Is that ok to replace?

Tom, you have to becareful, the RL won't take any aftermarket BLADES, you have to buy INSERTS that go in the OEM Acura Blades.

Yes, but they are ordering the inserts only listed on the Auto Barn as "PIAA SUPER SILICONE WIPER BLADE REFILLS"

This link may work

Ah ok I see now. Thats nice bc these are cheap! I guess I have stock ones on my car now but the rubber is peeling off. So these should slide right on the stock ones right?

Does someone know where I can get the little metal strips that go in the grooves of the wipers? For some reason my passenger side wiper is missing them and the wiper isnt making full contact with the windshield. I have no idea what these would be listed under in regards to a part number or name to look them up. Thanks!

I take the blades out of a set of RainX wipers from Walmart and slip them into the RL wipers.

I don't think you will have much luck finding the metal strips.
I would buy a new set of PIAA's, put the strip from the new one into your current blade. When the current blade wears out, put the strip back into the new one.
