Whinning Sound at 65-75 MPH
Whinning Sound at 65-75 MPH
Bought my 2005 RL to the Acura dealership because i was experiencing a whinning noise when im at 65 or above. You can hear the sound when you lighty step on ur gas. sounds like high pitched whine. causes of the whinning sounds was from the shift cable and wire control. after they replaced it, the noise was gone. if you are having the same problems. This might able to help you diagnose was cause the sounds.

Whining might also be the propeller shaft
Great info, thanks. Don't forget that the differential diagnosis of a high-pitched whine includes a more serious condition--failure of the propeller shaft bearings. Mine failed at about 52,000 miles. Typically it occurs at more than one speed though.
also, what happened when it failed.
I have the 30mph whine and am out of warranty - want to understand risk of not replacing
I'm not convinced the new shifter cable actually solves the 65-75 mph whine. When I had my 2005 RL and complained about the same whine, the first thing they did was replace the shifter cable. They tried one other thing, then resorted to replacing the transmission. None of the fixes worked, and the dealer gave up.
My theory is that it's either the SH-AWD system or the fuel pump. The fuel pump emits a high pitched whine at idle that is noticeable if you are outside the car.

I have the same issue with the fuel pump .. the dealer in Norwood told me it was "normal". But it does seem to be related to the 65-75 whine "soundwise"

It was Inskip in RI - they did give it a good effort. They had the car for nearly 3 weeks. Replacing the transmission was the suggestion from the Acura Tech Line. Both Acura and the dealer gave up after that.

wow. im suprised to see more ppl from boston lol. we should have a meet someday. well they were goin to change my transmission until they found out that changing the shift cable solved the whinning noise.
I always had great luck at Sunnyside in Nashua. I bought my G1 at Clair (now Prime) in Norwell. I never went back there for service. Always went to Sunnyside because they were cheaper and closer. My G2 is from Acura of Peabody. I just got serviced there last night. Emergency road repair. My wife took out two Michelin's in a Boston area pothole (not her fault of course
)
I had to have AAA use flatbed cuz I only had the one spare. I probably should have brought it back to Sunnyside. They advertise the lowest price on tires and I would have saved the tax ($35). Of course, I was on the side of the road and only had my dealer's phone number. Next time I may go back to Nashua.
