Whining/whistling sound at 20 mph

Is this the infamous carbon fiber drive shaft problem? The noise would appear first at about 5 mph when slight accelerating, then until 20 mph the noise appears again. It's hard to describe the sound, but it's close to metal rattling/whistling, than whining. The noise only comes on when there the car is accelerating. During cruising there are no noises.

My RL will be seeing the tech this Thursday. I only have about 17k on my odometer.........

I think I have the same noise in the same circumstances. Started this past week-end (May 23rd). Only 25,000 miles on my RL.

UPDATE:

Just brought my car back from the Acura of Bellevue. Everything was "normal."

In the morning when I was dropping off my RL, I had 2 techs ride with me to hear the noise. The 1st tech that test drove with me did not hear a thing, and I demanded to have another person ride with me. So the 2nd person came and he heard the noise. At first they thought there was some sort of vibration/rattle from the heat shield near the exhaust system. I demanded to test drive another 06 RL and low and behold, that RL had the same noise, only much louder. So their conclusion was, "It's a normal noise for this car" I could not argue with them.

Another concern I had was the steering column not coming down when I start the car. I had the battery replaced about 2 years ago and that solved the same problem I had prior to that. I told them it was mainly related to the battery getting weak. They tested out the battery and everything was within spec. What gives?

Anyway, everything was normal and I was speechless.

I just had my "drive line propellar shaft" replaced to fix a whine/whistle at approx 75mph. The Dealership could hear it and wanted to compare my 05RL to another (ie., to see if it was normal). After much debate AND me forwarding them comments from this forum (there were about seven clear examples of the same thing I was experiencing) they agreed to make the repair. LIKE MAGIC it fixed the noise!

There's also a TSB on the noise that identifies it at the speed you mentioned.

A TSB? Interesting. Are those on the Internet?

See if this works (it's written on the last page):

If not, search this forum and you'll find plenty of reference material.

Sounds like the "intermediate shaft heat shield" for which there is a TSB. The dealer took care of it some time ago on my (celestial silver) RL by retightening some bolts rather than the exact instructions on the TSB.

Yes, I just read your post and your previous problem was identical to mine. The problem was, the tech did just the heat shield (I am not sure which one) and he said everyone was ok, which was obviously not.

Next time I go in for a service I will bring up the TSB and have them do that. Thanks for your info.
