Wheel Resonance
Wheel Resonance
Something I read in another thread about "wheel resonance" and "Heimholtz generators" had me on a search to learn more about how Acura has reduced noise to the passenger compartment. This is great technology.
Here is a link to a website that explains more about what the Heimholtz generators do.
Anyone have any photographs of what this looks like inside of a RL wheel?

I mis-spelled, BTW, it should have been Helmholtz. (L not I)

In an effort to quell road noise transmitted to the RL's cabin, the new noise reducing wheel uses a polypropylene Helmholtz resonator that encircles the center portion of the inside of the wheel. Such resonator wheel technology significantly lowers middle frequency noise (between 100 and 500 hertz). Combined with the added use of insulation material on the floorboard areas of the RL, there is a 1.3 dB reduction in interior noise— which translates to a 15-percent improvement.

Does anyone know if those resonator wheels will work for pre-2011 RLs? I looked online and they are the same price as the 2009-2010 wheels, so they aren't charging any more for them. Do you think it will work on an 06?
I'm not too thrilled with the look of those wheels and they look like a nightmare to clean, but if it reduces road noise, maybe it's worth it.
What do you all think?

Do you have to buy the whole rim or can you just buy the resonator? If that were the case, I would buy a set of resonators and have them installed on the car...providing of course the cost wasn't outrageous to buy them.
I looked on line catalog and only saw the rim, but the one with the resonator wasn't listed.
