What should a new RL cost?

I've seen certified '09s with CMBS and about 4k miles at my local dealers go for $39k. If I were you I'd personally wait on buying one. They are in very low demand because of their design and the economy. Price would probably dip a lot more towards the end of the year. I go to auto auctions a lot and just seen an '09 Tech go for $32k.

No actually 32 sounds about right... you think a salvaged 09 Rl would sell for 32k?? your a lil off, try high teens to low 20's.
most New 09 Rl's are selling for about $41-44k ....and of course once they leave the lot, used...traded in...and head to auctions, ur easily going to lose 6-10k. Esp with the RL's havin bad resale value to begin with...32k is probably just about right.
As an idea....after I bought my $58k mercedes E350 last summer, about 3k miles later(about 5 months after ownership), I went to a mb dealer out of curiosity, and asked them how much id get on a trade. he offered 37k. Thats $21k off sticker, i paid 50k for the mercedes. He even showed me what other 08 E350's were going for at auction, and were going for mid 30's...compared to the 37k he offered me. Being the E350 holds value higher than RL, 32k is just about right for the RL.
I'm sure being an RL owner, it must suck to see them drop value like that, but every car loses its value....hence cars are bad investments.... buy for pleasure and utility!

03-09 E class styling pretty much turn off. 09 RL is rare and has great road presence. used 08 RL is average $5K more expensive than 08 350. and u cannot find 08 RL.

Actually RL holds value among the best in its class when you comapred to E/5/GS. I had a chance of buying 07 E350 for $19K in 2008. and that time it was one year old. less than even a certified 06 TSX.

When you mention you found an 07 E-350 for 19k in 2008, either your delusional or it had over 100k miles. show me anywhere where you can get that price. Ill buy it for you as a gift, cuase i know they dont exist.
I'm also wondering where you pull ur stats from, 5k more on average for an RL, dude, check manheim before you throw those numbers out there.
Its hard for me to understand your logic in that 03-09 Eclass styling turns you off, when they sold over 300k in usa alone, when everyone knows how controversial 09 Rl stying is, not to mention, they sell about 200 cars a month. seriously, also never compare a e-class to a tsx(rebadged accord). and if you even suggest tsx is a better car, you fail at life.

The one i found was on 17inch rims with no navigation & 39k miles.
2007-08 RL are hard to find. let alone 09.

Crash ratings are also tops.
BMWs have 3 star front driver ratings for collisions, people buy them because their image is more developed not because they fear getting crippled.

here is another E350 asking $34k for 2008 model. They are dime dozen for sale in 2007-08
It seems people buying them and within one to two years abondoning them in droves.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/ctd/1186500181.html
RL has more long term ownership. 2005-06 are just coming into market in very small amount.

I'm still unclear on what your suggesting, this price, is a far cry from the original 19k you stated earlier. Once again, when you sell about 300k models in the 6yrs this model has been out, OF COURSE your going to have people trading in, selling off early, for whatever reason.
Just because so few RL's available, doesn't mean they are a superior product, that people are keeping them. The real reason is, they sold about 1% of what MB does its E-class, so really i'm not understanding your logic. Look how many used 1yr old accords, camrys etc are out there.
037, i agree tsx is a nice car, offers great Value, but you can't compare a E-class to a Tsx, two different cars, two different segments. Having owned, acura, lexus, infiniti, honda, toyota, subaru, and now mercedes. I have YET to take my mercedes in for service.
The build quality in mercedes is top notch, you dont see all these Rattles and sqeaks which annoyed the hell out of me in my lexus and acura. Seriously, Drive an E-class...and then a tsx, and tell me, what you think. I dont buy cars for resale value, if thats a criteria you use, I buy for entertainment and use, and joy, def. not for its prestige, maybe others do, but I dont.

common. this thing is so obvious. Just by exterior and interior looks alone RL wins hand downs even with 17inch rim package. i am not even going into other things. RL owners are holding to there cars and its sales in 04-07 were pretty decent for AWD car.
People are attracted by MB name as most of the world Kings/Presidents/PMs drive around in S Class. So they want piece of that but after one year it is like jumping from ship at rock bottom prices. Cant believe People are selling 06 CLS-500 for $25K.

have you looked at the pix? it is green with sports package rims. and they are asking $34K not some thing firm. What i evaluated was 07 with standard 17inch rims. pretty blend car. they were asking $22k and settled for $19K but i still went with 06 TSX @$23K.
1 year old Accords/Civics are some time more expensive than new ones

if you call selling 200 Rl's a month, for there flagship model, that has awd, pretty decent, than i'm not sure anything else i say to you will make sense.
clearly you have something against mercedes(or any brand other than Acura)...im trying to be as unbiased as possible, owning both acura and mercedes, but i dont know what to tell you.
to insist that people only buy cars because famous people have them, and thats what mercedes cars are meant for, is beyond sane. Clearly you can't appreciate the driving dynamics of german cars, quite different from japan luxury makers, but everyone has a preference. not stating one is better than other, but you take your logic to a whole new level.
But hey, if ur finding 06 cls-500, for 25k, that dont have crazy miles or abused, let me know, I'll fly out and get one, and reward you with a finders fee. or better yet, u should become a car broker, with the nice deals you seem to find. but other than that, have a good memorial day weekend!

I just want to challeng you notion that RL depreciate more than other luxury cars. It is not the case. that despite the fact RL had worst fuel economy in its class than lighter RWD E350.

here is CLS-500 with sport/navigation/premium package for asking $35k with only 25k miles. a little bit higher miles and you will find rock bottom prices. Look at the pix. there alot more standing in the lot and its not even MB dealership. People are just abandoning them.

The E over the CLS??? Def to each his own. After the CLS, Im goin' CLK. (CLK 63 - "Black" edition if possible). Scariest stock car on the road, but not anywhere near the class we were talking about . 500+ Hp and a "smidge" over $50,000. Just wanted to show though:

Evening all. Saw this thread and thought a good place to ask. Looking at an '09 w/Tech package. Was a loner car at a dealership and has just under 7000 miles on it. Thinking of putting in an offer. Dealer asking for $41K, but looking to go in at around $36K-$37K. How low is insulting? I have a trade that they will give me squat for, so want to get the price down to compensate. Just want to pay a fair price for the car. Thanks!

If the dealership is going to give you $7k for it you are golden when trying to get the price you want.

Thanks! I took my MDX in for service today and spoke to the Sales Manager at my local Acura Dealer (where I bought the MDX). They gave me a little grief (expected) with what I was gonna do by purchasing the loaner from the other dealer. They said they could look for the car I want at a Manheim auction over the next month and work with me. I really don't have any loyalty to these guys, but if I am gonna bring this RL from another dealer in for service, they better take care of me. I would prefer to buy the car from the local guy, but bottom line they don't have the car. I don't know, see how things go with the loaner and go from there I guess. Thanks for your help.

They just want your business but if they don't have it but they should have offered the same or better deal if they are willing to find the car you want. If they can't or beat it then go elsewhere for the car you want.

I doubt they will turn away your service business for buying a car from another dealership. Buy the car where you get the best deal.
