What is the best way to remove the clips in trunk

I am upgrading my 08 Base to Nav, and don't know how to take the clips off and the trunk light without breaking them. Please assist.

With your username!

I used a blade screwdriver and a moderate amount of force. They're stronger than they look. Pry them out a bit and then use the surrounding carpet (or whatever material that is) to pull the rest out.

I'm having a hard time just imagining this. You are going to put Navi (I assume factory looks) in a car that didn't come with it? I would think the trunk light would be the millionth and first thing on your list.

Are you talking about a rear view camera?

The light cover also comes out with a small blade screwdriver and a minimal amount of force. IIRC it's easiest to pry the left side loose. Then you just disconnect the light from the wire.

Actually, the non-navi car comes with a navi screen (which shows AC functions and compass), so mostly the install involves sourcing a DVD player from a navi car. Pretty straightforward, actually. It's not the same as putting a navi in a non-navi TL or TSX, which don't come with navi screens.

Navigation installed and working just as if I ordered the car with the tech package. I didn't break any of the clips on the trunk liner, but I just have one problem, I cannot get the clips to re-attach, do you just force them straight on or is there a technique to use?

The Base RL lacks Navi, Rear View Camera, articulating headlights, and has fake wood. Just as neuron Bob stated, the only thing I had to change was the DVD player in the trunk. I sourced it from a guy on eBay for 400. The only difference b/w my Nav and a car that it came with is that it doesn't have XM Traffic and the button says Compass, otherwise it is the same now. All the other NAV components are exactly the same as a car that came with NAV, so it looks factory and the only hard part is getting the damn clips re-attached, got them all but 2.

Are you sure the clips came out when you pulled the liner off? Sometimes they slip from the liner and stay in the chassis. If this is the case, you will need to pry them from the chassis, slide them into place in the liner and then reapply with force. No amount of force, unless a sledge is your tool of choice, will pop them into the liner.

Thank you, that was indeed my dilemma, the white posts stayed in the chassis on all of the clips except one, I tried for an hour to get the white post back into the black part of the clip that is attached to the felt, I didn't know if I should pull the white posts out of the chassis or not. The black part of the clips that attach to the felt stayed attached on all of them. One of the white clips stayed attached to the black part of the clip and now won't hold in the chassis when I push it back up., Is there anywhere where I can buy the white posts cheaper?

Awesome! I remember the first guy who did this with his base 2007 RL and led the way on the forum with this type of install.

The only disadvantage is indeed the lack of the traffic function. It'd be golden to be able to add that.

Yes, I believe his tag was 2007AcuraRL and the sticky of his first conversion to NAV on a Base in the "garage" is what led me to this, I honestly thank this forum for that info, I would have NEVER had NAV in this car and now I got it for 400. Thanks 2007AcuraRL wherever you are....Thanks NeuronBob too for the help...Just got done putting a coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze on it...looks sick..

did you have to do ANYTHING else at all, or simply plug in the Nav reader and that's it? no wiring? nothing?
