Transmission fluid additives like Lucas....

I am doing another drain and fill on my transmission tomorrow when I change the engine oil. This will be the third time I've changed it when changing the engine oil. I bought the car @20,000 miles ago and I wasn't sure how often the prior owners changed it. So I've been changing it every oil change.

Anyway, the transmission shifts fine but it does have a whine to it between 40-45 mph and over 70mph. It isn't that bad and hasn't gotten any worse but it is noticeable. I believe it is gear whine and changing the fluid won't help that of course. Well I was thinking about adding an "additive" like Lucas just to see if it helps at all. I know Honda doesn't recommend using any additives but I wanted to ask here to see what you guys all think.

I decided I am going to do the service tonight. So I won't be adding any additives this time. But with that said, what is everyone's opinions???

Check out BobIsTheOilGuy.com for more knowledgeable opinions than I can give you (although I made an extensive post on the ATF topic previously -- search for it if you like).

That said, my opinion is that if you want great transmission fluid, don't bother with the additives. Use Amsoil.

I trust Acura/Honda for the transmission. They wouldn't go wrong on that with as many cars that are out in the world. The newer oil that has been out for over a year is improved.

I've read it over and over than Honda/Acura transmissions, automatics in particular, do much better with the OE Fluid from Honda/Acura. Not worth the risk if you ask me.

Sounds like a prop shaft bearing issue, not transmission.

I thought it was the prop shaft but I tested the car on a lift. The noise is coming from the transmission not the shaft.

A friend of mine is a truck driver and a drag racer. He swears by Lucas products and uses them in all of his engines and transmissions. That is why asked. I will just stick with Honda ATF in RL.
