Tint

I'm finally getting around to getting the windows tinted on the RL. My neighbor referred me to this guy who did his TL, and the new Civic Coupe he bought his son.

Guy quoted me $200 using Llumar. Going 35% all the way around, but he said that he's actually going to put two sheets on the rear windshield. He said it darkens the back up a bit more and provides a "gradual" effect.

Anyone ever heard of that?

Best part is that he has a mobile unit and will do it right out of my garage.

That's news to me. But you want to be careful and not use a metallic based tint film. Could cause Navi problems. Ceramic based tint film is best used to prevent Navi problems and it doesn't fade with time.

Not ceramic. This is my third car with tints, and my last car '01 TL had a Nav and am aware of the metallic issue with the nav.

Had LLUMAR done not long ago myself....love it.
Haven't heard of the 'double layer' in the back before... I'll be interested to hear how it turns out.

In the TL, we generally recommend moleskin because the way the rubber on the windows is placed, tint is at very high risk of scratching. That has kept me from doing tint on my TL.

Is this a problem on the RL? If I go through with the purchase, I'd like to do 35%.

I had the felt put on my TL doors when I tinted windows. I was told by my tint installer that RLs don't have the felt problem like the TLs. Factory felt on all doors!

I don't know about the two layers on the back window. Why not just go one layer in darker tint?

I was mistaken. The tint guy came by today and did my car. He used the Platinum Llumar tint.

He didn't put two sheets in back, he just went darker.

35% on the sides and 15% on the back.

Love it!!

If you can post some pics, I'd appreciate it. I've been trying to talk my wife in tinting her 05 RL.

Just had my '05 RL done last week in SolarGard Ultra Performance non-metalized. 50% all around. Cost me $160 even. No ill effects on the electronics noted.

Did you read my follow up posts? He didn't end up ding two layers. Just went darker in the back.

Touge, the white RL is beautiful. My last two cars were white, so this time I wanted something different so I went with grey. I still admire the white ones though.
