Timing Belt Job

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I had the timing belt service done to my 2005 RL with 103K Miles. Labor ran me $375 and the parts $500 due to needing a side motor mount as well.

The side mount was ripped to shreds. I knew it was bad, but I did not think it was that bad. The car rides much nicer now with that taken care of. While they were working on the job, we noticed the tensioner was leaking, BAD. I am glad that I took the car in when I did, because if the tensioner were to lose tension, the engine might have been toast!

Overall the service went smooth. The point of this post was to let people know to not procrastinate on getting that service done as the timing belt itself, is not the only part that can fail in that part of the motor.

One other thing we noticed and that I was wondering if anyone had info on, the welds on my sub frame seem to be cracking. Does anyone know if Acura/Honda has a lifetime warranty on the welds for the subframe? I've never seen the welds cracked on a subframe, not even on wrecked vehicles. Thanks in advance

Kinda $$$ for belt and mount.
I sold wifes TL at 103 K to bypass this.
FWIW I had a '91 Legend w motor mount problem.
Cracked frame wells is bad and out of warranty {7 years}.
I only have seen them cracked on wrecked damaged cars.

Timing belt service is 105K miles. not sure why its 105, not 100, but that's what it says.
I had mine done at the dealer. I believe the standard quote was 1100, but they had a "special" on and I got it done for just over $900. including the other maintenance items in that service

I believe everything is based off of the 7k mi oil change. 105/7 = 15. Since you are already there to get your oil changed, might as well throw in a timing belt too.

I bought the parts myself. I got the tensioner and idler pulleys, belt, water pump, and motor mount for $400. That motor mount was $160 Only thing I didnt buy beforehand was the tensioner, didn't think I needed it but oh well. Worry free for another 100K

Well I paid $240 for everything minus the motor mount so I didnt come off too bad. If youre still under warranty, your mounts should be covered. When I had my TLS under warranty they were giving me new mounts every 3-4 months Labor was $350-375 and it was at Asian Imports in Glendale MD. Might want to have them check the tranny mount too cause I just bought one of those as well as mine was in pretty bad shape. I'm going to get that put in today along with the lightweight stock sized pulley.

It lightens the rotational mass of the engine allowing it to work less harder and improving acceleration

What happened with the TL-S that your mounts were being replaced so often? That is pretty unusual.

Yea the side mounts on the J series are kinda notorious to go bad between 60-90K miles which in turn puts stress on the rest of the mounts especially the transmission mount.
