figured now's a good time to get in on the 2nd gen seeing that the thrid gens are being advertised. at this point, i prefer the 2nd gen body style.

neg. an 05 with 50k for 23500.
CGP/E int with the back up sensors installed
one owner

unfortunately the 50 k disqualifies it from the acuracare extended warranty
interested to hear your thoughts: good deal?

spend the extra and go with an 06, less problems to worry about like the A/C, which is expensive to repair.

Definitely go with a later model, less mileage.

Judging by the mileage of your other Acuras then you know that 50K is not much. My 05 has been flawless for 70K+ so I cannot fault the 05's. If your concern is enough to break the deal then the dealer could easily give you the extra warranty for a really good price.

That price sounds awfully low if its coming from an Acura dealer. I'd take if I were you. I bought an 05 rL with 43k on it about two months ago. Paid 26,900. Spent another $900 extending the warranty to 7 years 100k miles (bumper to bumper factory, not aftermarket garbage with deductibles). Figured if the ac or nav goes, that will easily cover it. I only drive about 10k miles per year so it works out to a 4 year, 56k mile warranty. Mine is lakeshore silver and came with the technology package. One owner, came off lease after 32 months (BTW, previous owner paid 615/mont w/2k down). The car is very clean, inside and out with plenty of brake and tire life left.

Go on Edmunds or KBB.com and you'll see the price that people are paying for the car is around 29-32 for certified. Acura gives 12k, 1 year warranty standard on certifieds. A private seller can get about $23k for the car.

An 06 would cost you several thousand more, probably over $30k

BTW, I can't say enough about the car, including 25/30 gas mileage on 89 octane.

By the way, the 2009 model year is still part of the second generation.

NYCtl...... I have shopped Acura Rl's aggressively the past 3 months are so. Let me tell you...that is NOT A GOOD DEAL AT ALL! I initially went for 05's thinking better savings, but with so many complaints, i leaned toward an 06. As you have, I have found many dealers over-inflating the price, thinking the general public doesn't realize how poor the residual is on the Acura Rl. I hate to say it, as much as I love the RL..financially its a bad decision, unless you found a nice used model with lower miles at a good price.

With that kind of miles....as i JUST had a friend check whole auctions.. cars with 30k-40k miles of an 05 Acura RL are selling at auction for $17.9k to 20.9k. So figure a lil dealer profit and whatever they are adding on, you should NOT pay more than 21k. 50k is high mileage. Ive looked on autotrader..in my area, 05...with 55k miles is selling for $18,900 at local auto dealer.

I have to humbly say rlerman is incorrect with his advice. you can get an 06 aggressively priced around 27-28K. I know i'm just a random stranger, but i searched everywhere...negiotated quite a few places and walked away from dealers, as they took me for a fool and tried to rip me off...almost ALL of them called me back, taking 4-5k off what they initially wanted. I honestly had enough of the crap...and bought an E 350 two weeks ago, impossible deal to match.

Sadly the Acura RL's just aren't selling.... a poor selling new RL....means lack of interest...tho i still think its a great bargain compared to other cars in its class. Typically that car is negotiated at 45-46k buy price.....3yrs later...Market value ...is 45-48%. with 12-15kmiles a year. Yours is a lil above that range, so a savings is required.

thanks for each response so far

vino
i don't know where you live but like you i've researched hard from mass to nevada for the 05 rl and i have yet to see one for 19 K like you are saying is readily available without it having crazy miles.
i traveled over 200 miles in the past week to find one.
and i have access to the manheim auctions and what i found was similar in the price that i negotiated below give or take 1- 1.5K diff.

but thanks once again

and yeah db, i like driving...lol.

VINODC...I don't know what part of the country you live in, but in my area, NY/NJ, prices are much higher than the ones you quote. Go to autotrader and check. The lowest asking price I see on an 05 is $23k and that car has 49k miles, no warranty, as is. An 05 certified with 32k miles is asking $26.9. An 06 rl is $32k with 15k miles, as is, but a certified car with 7 yr warranty is being offered at $32k with 22k miles. You think the dealers are going to drop the price 5k on those cars, I don't think so.

I don't know the economics behind the wholesale market, but why would an 05 or 06 RL with 30-40k miles be offered at auction. The RL's in my area don't sit on the lots particularly long, certainly less than 3 months, which I don't think is bad given the current state of the economy.

The blue-book retail value of the 05 with 30k miles is 32k, trade-value on the car is 22k and my understanding is that dealers typically get higher than trade-in value at auction. KBB may be off, but hard to believe it's off that much.

If you don't mind, I would like the number of auction house your friend works at because I would gladly pay $21k for an 05 with 30k miles on it, assuming it's in pristine condition, as mine is.

FWIW, the Washington Post had 9 05 and 06 RLs in the for sale section this last Sunday, which is about 7 more than I usually see. There were actually 11, but it looks like on dealer had his ad run twice.

Hey guys, you are right....it is VERY difficult to find an 05 RL with low miles under 20k. dont get me wrong. But look up 48104 on autotrader....i Live in Ann arbor, MI. They are all advertising around 25k for 50k miles car. BUT when actuallly going into the dealer, they knocked 4k off. I'm telling you, ive seen these cars sit there for 4-5months at a time.

The car i was first looking at was in, Ann arbor Acura. It was an 06 RL, certified with 37k miles. They had it listed at $36,999. After a week of playing games with me...they brought it down to 31k flat. This car is STILL AT THE DEALER!!! its been sitting on his lot since february. Then a week into that, i decided let me take a trip to chicago, and see what the large dealers there are selling it at. I was finding 05's with 20k miles stickered at around 26k. after netiogiations....brought it down to $22.9k. I mean look it up for yourselves....the 60601 zip code in chicago....at Mcgrath acura, they own like 4 acura dealers. I'm telling you for a fact, my friend traded in his 06 Rl with 38k miles...and the dealer gave him $24,500. he abused the car, and he could also write it off for business, or i woulda bought it for the same exact price they offered him.

Rlerman...If i had the chance, i would have had him get me car that cheap myself!! I had actually found a listing for an 08 acura RL in chicago area, and this guy said they were wholesalers and he was just a driver/delivering of cars....but he wanted to get into the selling of the cars side of business. Luckily he picked up phone when i called. I told him i wanted a certain car...and he looked up auction prices and guided on me what to pay. He said his boses always put 2.5k onto whatever they got the car for....and did NOTHING to the cars, as in no maintenance etc. So that kinda scared me of a little, and decided I want to go with an Acura dealer. But I have called him numerous times, on various cars to findout auction prices. '

I'm very confident you guys know what your doing, clearly markets are different. its almost impossible i see an RL on the roads here, and i mean the dealer honestly admits, he sells 1 a month at best times. There is no interest atleast in MI area for this car, if they cant sell it new, goodluck selling it used! unless RL lovers like us, take advantage of it and buy em.

ok VINODC. compare what you are now saying to what I originally posted
i got the car at 23500 on negotiations (my budget was 25.5)
you're saying that the cars are being advertised for 25k in ann arbor mi
you're saying you got 22900 for an 05 and
your friend traded in his 06 for 24500
how much do you think they're going to sell that for? not 23500 0r 22900
the difference between is only 600.
so explain how you can make the declaration that 23500 is not a good deal at all (your words)

Nyctl im not here to argue with you. If you want to spend 23.5k on a 50Kmile plus car, thats your business, i was only offering my opinion. which is why im assuming you posted on here, instead of critizing others to explain there logic, you decide whats best for you.

My logic is, a car with that kinda miles...and poor residual, doesn't warrant 23k price tag.
The cars im talking about in ann arbor, MI area are being advertised for 25k, LOOK IT UP on autotrader. Go into to the actual dealer with your checkbook, and see what they offer you, until you've done so, take my word. im not saying a savings of 600 is the CAUSE of the BAD deal title. THERE WAS A REASON I DIDN"T BUY IT AT THAT PRICE. because 05's are notoriously plagued with TSB issues and defects being first model year....everyone knows that.

As for 06 RL.....have ANYONE On this forum....TAKE IT TO AN ACURA DEALER...im sure dozens will respond, they will get offers from 22-26k at best on trade-in with avg. miles. IM STATING facts, clearly you haven't done enough research.

Or you could just buy a new Mercedes E350, got it for around 50k. 8k off sticker...gonna tell me thats not possible either?!! either that, or just cant afford one. goodluck with ur used car.

VINODC...I checked your zip on autotrader and the lowest priced RL in the 20k mileage range is $27.9. There's an 05 w/49k miles being offered at $26.9, which seems pretty high.

the cheapest 06 with 19k miles is $34.9

I bought my car with 43k miles on it, but the mileage didn't bother me so much because I will only put about 10k miles on it per year so it will soon become a lower mileage car. There is a good factory bumper-bumper warranty on it and hopefully, the car has had all of the problems ironed out by now, if it had any. The dealer gave me the top end of the book value on my Jeep trade-in and I have free oil changes for life (4 per yr max), which saves about $120/yr. Over 5 years, that saves about $600 hundred.

Could I have bargained for a little less, probably, but I knew what I wanted to pay going in and I knew what I wanted for the trade and I got them both.

Having had the car now for two months, it appears to be well worth the money($26.9). The car is very clean, inside and out and besides the floor mats, it's hard to tell its a used car (even still has that new car smell).

Here's the edmunds pricing report that I based my decision off of...I was looking at certified retail price of almost 32 and got 26.9, a 5k diff. Not much else at my disposal to price off of. Also, according to Edmunds, the car will have $12k of depreciation after 5 yrs, still more than half the price I paid.

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2005/acu...tion=vdpresult.

According to edmunds, a new 08 with a sticker of $50.6 ($46.6 TMV), will depreciate about $16k in the first three years, still putting the car over $30k.

take it easy, son. who's arguing with you? i asked a simple question because you made a definitive statement and then turned around and contradicted it to great extent.
now, you're saying it's a bad deal not because of the price (if i understood correctly, the price was the main point of your first advice i.e. car can be had for 18 - 19K) but because of the technical issues associated with the first run of the rl in comparison to the 06-08.
i asked for clarification of your statement, if you choose to take that as criticism then that's on you buddy. yes i posted for opinions and i thanked everyone for their input regardless of what my decision is.

as for your comments on the 06 acura, your statements make no sense because you are talking about trade in values. what does that have to do with the retail price when the dealer is looking to make a profit on the vehicle, mr astute car buyer? go into the dealership and tell them that you're paying only 500 over the trade in price of the car and come back and tell us how it went.......

and lastly dude, if i wanted a benz, then i'd buy a benz....last time i check this was acurazine.com and not benzine.com.

thanks once again

vinodc...calm down, man. It's only the Internet.

To the OP....I think that's a decent deal you got. As far as 2005s....as long as you make sure the TSBs with the car have been addressed, the 2005 should be just fine. The bugs were definitely worked out with the 2006-8 models, so if you can pay a little more, that might work out better.

Good luck on your purchase!

Hey...I'm perfectly Calm. I'm not sure why you guys are trying to analyze every word I say. But you guys keep telling me certain cars are LISTED for 27k, so what, everyone marks up the cars. Like I said, go to the bargaining table, as I have multiple times, and you'll quickly see how inflated these local prices are...cuz there just aren't any buyers for these RL's.

But I have nothing further to say, its your car, your money...buy whatever makes you happy.

I will give you a few examples.

might want to look a lil harder.
