Taller Driver

Hello,

I was wondering if any taller drivers 6'4"+ have a 2005 (or similar) Acura RL, and their experience with the fit? I'm considering buying a 2005 RL (ebay auction from a reputable seller) but won't have enough time to actually test drive one, but based on the things I've read, I think I'd like it.

I'm 6'6", so if the wheel doesn't shift/telescope up or the seat doesn't go low enough my legs are way too cramped.

I'm basically on the fence between getting a 2006 m35 sport trim and this 2005 acura RL. Opinions on that would be welcomed as well! Thanks!

I'm 6'4" and the amount of leg and hip room is the main reason I purchased an RL. However, the passenger side seems cramped even with the seat all the way back. The TL seems tight on the driver and passenger side.

I can only imagine at 6'6''... not many choices. I've always wanted a Vette so bad, but with no back seats, the front will not go back enough so that I can push in the clutch pedal.

But if the M35 has room, go that route.

Go to a dealer for a test "fit". Even a 2009-2010 will give you a feeling of fit, because they did not change the front so much as to re-sculpt the seat backs to give more apparent knee/leg room in the rear.

Everybody is built differently, I mean look at Michael Phelps, 6'4", but short legs, closer to a 6 footer, relative to his height, really long arms, like 6'7" relative to his height. I could see the relatively short legs, long torso and even longer arms not being comfortable in the RL.

This seems like too important a detail to base just on what you read

This is the way to go ... do it in person before you regret it after dropping a ton of cash on a car that you are uncomfortable in

At 6'5", I fit fine in the driver's seat and I have it adjusted low but with the base tilted back for leg support. I can bump my head on the ceiling, say when launching over railroad tracks to evade the police, etc... My Dad, who's 2" taller bumps his head immediately in the passenger seat, and I've noted (when using that chair) that I miss the "lowering effect" possible on the power side.

Also note that only little teeny people will be able to sit behind you, such as Keebler elves or that hot bi-amputee chick on the internet, when you have the seat slid back to fit. Front seat comfort is quite good, however.

Thanks for the information, and the input from everyone else. I'm going to try to get to a dealership tomorrow before work and sit in one to see how it fits, though I'm expecting to fit (I hope). I don't often have people sit behind me, and basically anyone who does knows they're not getting any room.

The search function is your friend...this has been discussed before...

I'm 6'8" and 270 and I fit just fine. Even fit in an RSX, Integra, and CRX.

I'm 6'7" and I find my RL to be rather comfortable. The memory seats, mirrors, and wheel (not many cars have power wheels) make sharing the car with a spouse or other driver a breeze (unless another there's another tall driver involved).

Granted the seat scoots way too far forward to be of use (except for those double amputees without legs), and I'd rather have that travel further aft. The seats could have more thigh support or better yet an extension for us taller drivers, but that's sadly common across most cars.

My wife designs seats for Honda/Acura (oh the irony--she's 5'3" btw), so I went with the best fit in the Acura family, and that was the RL, and I never regretted it. That being said, ymmv and checking it out in person is the way to go.

Apparently only giants own the RL! I have never seen so many tall-ass guys chime in on a forum before!

I feel tiny at 6'0"!
