squeaky windows after tint
squeaky windows after tint
I actually had my RL's window tinted quite long ago, and ever after it got tinted, the driver's side window will always squeak if it goes up or down. i thought that it would go away after a while, but apparently it has not. and it's odd how it's only the driver's side window, not that i wanted the other windows to squeak also. anyone have this happen before?
Have you tried some silicone spray wax for lubrication. I used to have to do that on one of my older cars that was tinted. Never squeaked, but the installer told me to do that like once a month, which I did and never had any problems.
Maybe they don't make it anymore. Turtle wax made a silicone spray wax with no abrasives. It was for cars finishes. Sprayed on white, spread it evenly, like any wax, wait for it to dry, and then buff off clear. It goes on the tint itself so that the surface tension on the window film was much reduced.
That probably has nothing to do with your problem, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

I had my windows tinted 2 weeks ago. No squeaking. Is the squeak from the rubber edge that presses against the glass on the inside, the outside, or somewhere down in the mechanism? Every car I've ever owned had aftermarket tint and I've never run across the problem you described.

it seems like it's coming from the the rubber edge of something pressing against the glass. i got this from the TBS bulletins: "Are owners of ’04–05 TLs complaining of window
noise and binding after having their windows
tinted? The cause could be door glass weatherstrip
damage by the window tinting guys.
To save time, window tinting shops often leave
the door trim panels on. But with the trim panels
left in place, there’s just not enough room to apply
the tint far enough down the glass to hide the end
point of the film. To get around this problem, the
tinting guys fold the door glass weatherstrip
wipers under so the wipers are pointing straight
down instead of straight up like they should. This
lets them apply the film where they want it, but it
permanently deforms the wipers, causing the
windows to make noise and bind when you raise
or lower them.
So what’s the bottom line? Tell the window tinting
guys they’ve got to remove the door trim panels,
and they should never fold the door glass
weatherstrip wipers under. Damage to the door
glass weatherstrip from doing this isn’t covered by
warranty."
could that be it? but why would it be only limited the the TL?
yeah, it is. i saw part of the weather stripping deformed and faced down. i propped it back up with a ruler, and i think it should return return to normal as time passes..hopefully. thanks for those that tried to help

Thats good news for you. I was just going to post to you to check and see if they remembered to pull the strip back up when they were done. I see you beat me to it! Any deformity of the stip comes back out within 2 days.
