Question Some Issues - Feedback Requested

Ok, I've had my RL for about 2 months now, so I'm really starting to observe any little things that bother me. I've come up with 4, and although I've run some searches, I haven't been able to find accurate information for my issues on this forum. I hope someone can point me me in the right direction.

Cheers.

1 - Transmission: This is really my biggest concern. I've noticed that many times, my transmission shifts abruptly, it's not very smooth. It jerks the the car a bit when shifting - usually happens when the car is cold. I'm used to my TSX to some extent and that shifts smoother than this transmission. It seems to rev up normally, but then there is a slight delay between when it switches gears. It happens across most gears (1,2,3) that I've noticed. However, it seems sporadic. There are times when it shifts so smoothly that I don't even realize it's shifted. I know it the transmission adjusts to your driving habits, etc., but I wanted to know how other's transmissions are and if I should have the dealer look at it. If I bring it in, what do I say - since it's sporadic.

2 - Nav. Position Cursor: The current location cursor on my navigation screen sits about 1/2mm to the left of the road that I'm currently traveling on. In both my other Acura's the cursor was very precise and right on top of the road. This only happens at certain zoom levels, but I thought I'd ask.

3 - Rear Sunshade Rattles: with loud music that is... . Should I just go in and ask for felts? Is there a TSB for it? I don't want them ripping out the sunshade and messing with my back deck.

4 - Is there a leather conditioner you all recommend that does not leave your seats glossy at all. I just want to clean and protect (make softer) - not glossy or smelly.

Thanks for any insight and/or links to the appropriate threads.

I moved your thread to the main forum as it describes a variety of issues.

1. I only notice occasional jerking, only in low gears, and only when the transmission is cold. I chalk it up to normal operating procedure, unless I'm misinterpreting what you're saying.

2. With all the Acura navis, when you are in an area with sensitive installations, the cursor is a bit off. However, this can happen in other places, too. For example, there is one place I know the cursor is always off--the exit from the freeway to my neighborhood. The cursor seems to follow the freeway rather than the offramp. What's really freaky is that the display clearly states I am on the off-ramp. Not bothersome to me.

3. Thank goodness I don't have that, I had to put up with the subwoofer rattle in my 3G TL for three years.

4. We have a Wash and Wax forum where you can ask that one. Actual detailers and those who are into detail will answer your question.

I believe there is a set-up option to correct the position of the cursor.

Anyone have any ideas of how to get to it?

from Page 103-104 of the Navigation System Manual:

http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/p...606N00104A.pdf

Correct Vehicle Position
The system relies on satellites for
positioning information. Buildings,
tunnels, and other objects can block or
reflect these signals, requiring the
system to use “dead reckoning” to
determine your location and direction.
This can sometimes lead to small errors
in positioning, such as showing you on
an adjacent street.
NOTE:
Using this function to adjust vehicle
position is not recommended. When the
system acquires a GPS signal, it will
automatically place the vehicle in the
correct location.
If you choose to do this, follow these
steps:
1. Stop the vehicle.
2. Select Correct Vehicle Position from Set Up Menu,
and the system will display a map
adjustment screen.
3. Use the Interface Dial to move the
vehicle position arrowhead to the
correct location, and push in on the
Interface Dial. The display will
change to:
4. Rotate the Interface Dial knob so
the vehicle position arrowhead is
pointing in the correct direction, and
push in on the Interface Dial. The
display will return to the previous
screen.
NOTE:
If you continually have to do this, there
is either problems in the database or
GPS reception problems. See Manual
Overview on page 4.
5. As you drive, the current road will be
displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot tonight. Anyone else have transmission issues?

I find the RLs transmission tuning very smooth, especially when compared to the herky jerky tuning of the TLs autotranny.

That said, the only time I have encounterd a sloppy shift is when at slow speed, letting up on the throttle just as it was about to shift. But most cars do that when driver input does not compliment the shift logic.

I cannot comment on the cold climate behavior.

I have had your "hard" shift problem only once that I can remember and it was very cold outside and the shift was from reverse to drive. It actually "banged" into gear. I have not had the problem since and suspect that the transmission was not warmed up at the time.

Regarding the Nav issue, my icon is slight off target as well. I never really gave it much thought before. However, if the adjustment process works for you, please let me know.

As far as leather conditioning, I use Lexol. Very pleased with for the very fact that it does not leave a glossy look.

1. No issues at all aside from a time or two that seems to fit what Tampa (previous post) said.

2. The maps aren't always a 100% accurate as well. With my old TL, my subdicvision seemed to be a different scale as opposed to the NAV. As a result it consistently showed me on the wrong street. It was fine in the RL. As already stated, you can correct it.

3. Sunshade rattles were a common issue with the '05s and some '06s. I experienced this. Dealer injected foam into some of the trim pieces on the rear parcel shelf and that solved the problem.

4. I use Lexol.

There is also a cure for the sunshade rattle. The dealer puts some felt patches in the shade's 'cradle'. But that works if your shade rattles when retracted.

Thanks all. I'll have my dealer look at my transmission when I go in for my next oil change + insert felt for the rattles. I'll fix the nav tonight + buy some lexol.

Do all your cds pause when you pick up a call? I know this is another thread somewhere on here, but thought I'd ask. Mine does not. Is this in a TSB?

I believe it's as designed for 05s. I know my 06 TL paused and I've heard that 06 RLs pause too.

ok - I should have said "as miss designed" in the 2005, just like the light chime, and the non-auto temp control
but I still love it

Did I miss how many miles on the car?

Acura trannies (auto) have always like clean fluid, change the fluid more often than they recommend, not too expensive and often works wonders. I will change mine between 15 to 20k miles. Honda and Acura trannies have been a weak point compared to the rest of the car. Maybe the new engineers will get them right, mine is perfect so far, very smooth, 15k on the car.

Actually this isn't true. There is another thread on here with other 06 owners that tell us that it does pause.

22,850 when I bought it...26,000 as of today. I could always take it back to my dealer and find out what the deal is. They have been pretty lenient on things, in terms of certification issues, so my guess is that if they test it and find an issue, they'll replace the fluid for me. However, I should bring this up, along with any other issues at my first oil change.

Sorry, you are incorrect. I have an '06.

The disc will pause if you push the disc number (eg. 1-6), but it will not automatically pause when a call comes in.

I have an 06, and the CD does pause when you initiate an HFL call. I do not know if it pauses when you receive a call, although I do not know why it would not. I will have to try that this weekend.

My '06 doesn't pause when I receive a call. I would like it to. Never noticed what happens when I initiate one. I'll check later today.

I remember reading somewhere that it's supposed to pause. Mine doesn't pause either. I wonder if there's a setting for it or perhaps it only works with store-bought music CDs and not MP3's possibly?

I stand corrected.

The CD does not pause on initiating an HFL call. Only the iPod does with an aftermarket adapter.

Sorry for the misinformation!

I knew I was right although you did have me second guessing myself even though I'm convinced I have finally mastered all the tech in this car.
