So this is what happened ( SH-awd story )
So about two days ago I was out driving in the greater Seattle area, after I got home from work, since I don't get to drive my car all that much. We have had some really nice weather in the area, I can't remember the last time it even rained, it had been that long. After I went out to dinner I was coming home later that evening and it started to rain pretty good, but I thought nothing of it, it was just rain, but man was I wrong. As I headed home I had to get over onto another freeway, as I got on the on ramp, I punched it, the Aspec suspension does really well in the curves and that's when it happened. I was doing about 65 mph in the curve, I do it all the time, right ? Well the rain had mixed with the oils on the roads from the past couple of months and that is one hell of a slippery ride, as I was about to find out. AS I came into the curve my back end started to come out and my front end stared to turn, this all happened in the blink of an eye and since I was going at the speed I was going at the concrete barrier started to come really close. In an instant I let off the gas, took my foot off the break and let the car take over. As soon as I did that, I got my traction back and my car straightened itself out, I missed the barrier by a few inches, but what matters is, I missed it and I didn't hurt anyone. I have to say I had a little bit of luck, I mean there could have been another car in front of me or behind me, a lot of things could have gone wrong, but they didn't and sometimes a little luck plus some good driving skills is all you need . . . . . sometimes. If I would have been in any other kind of car, besides an all wheel drive car, or even our loved SH-AWD, I don't think I would have been as lucky and my story would been about how I totaled my car and how much that sucked ! The End.

I haven't said "SH-AWD is the shiznit" for a while, so I'll take the opportunity.
SH-AWD is the shiznit! I wish there was a way I could have had 556 hp AND SH-AWD in the same car.

I would probably thank stability control which selectively hits the brakes for you.

I thought that the SH-AWD only worked when accelerating, but I notice that when going downhill and taking a turn - with no acceleration or braking - the sh-awd indicator will show "power" (one bar) going to the outer rear wheel and no bars to the other wheels.. ??

I believe it works in acceleration as well as deceleration, but not constant velocity. So, op probably had a bit of both SH-AWD and the stability control working at the same time.

I believe you will find that the VSA on our cars works by controlling the amount of power to selected wheels, before it starts using the brakes to help correct the skid.
Don't know how much drive application there is in de-acceleration, but most people take their foot off the accelerator when they get into strife, so one would think there must be some action from the SH-AWD in there. When tracking the Legend, and getting it totally out of shape, you can feel the car correcting itself, often before you even start reacting to the slide. But I've never been conscious of feeling the brakes being applied to help straighten the car. If the brakes were used, you would anticipate to feel some sort of retardation, but the Legend just seems to straighten itself out!

You guys are ballsy. I would've been a little scared taking a 65mph corner in my tricked out WRX, let alone the whale that is my RL.
Maybe I need to expand my horizons.

Almost sounds like you were off the gas before the slide started . . . Otherwise, wouldn't the VSA kick in and redistribute power to correct the lack of traction.
I am presuming (Like 037 and Abusive) the SH-AWD system works best when power is supplied.
65mph in the rain is fine . . . Always make sure you have a safe runoff area (not shaped like a concrete wall).

Three Wheelin'
Tires can only do so much, and they may grip better when you're not asking them to also put power down.
Thankfully you didn't hit anything. I'm amazed how many people under estimate rain. Around here you'd think it snowed. Cars in the ditch, fender benders... it's just crazy.

Well I am new here bot not to cars. Great to hear you made it out safely
However that would have been a perfect moment sweet arse AWD drift...minus of course the potential for destroying a perfectly good car!

Girl, you need to try it out. There is a cloverleaf interchange here rated at 30 mph and a flashing yellow light. I have powered through that at 55-60 mph and the RL just asks for more. No drama, no B.S. Just tons o' fun.

It is a pretty wide curve and I do it all the time, with the Aspec suspension you barely even notice the speed. That day what got me was the oil that had dried on the roads, because we hadn't had rain in a really long time, that mixed with the rain just caught me off guard.
