Should I get an Acura RL?

I'm currently a TSX owner and think I'm financially and mentally ready for a more mature / comfortable ride.

I felt getting a TL would make me think of getting a RL probably another year later.

anyhow..

06 Acura RL was offered to me for $39,800.
How does it compare to a Lexus GS300?
What made you decide on an RL?
Are you happy with your decision? If you can do it over, would you?
Why not a TL? How does it compare?

That's not a mere steal - That, my friend, qualifies as outrageous first degree robbery...

I don't have kids but I'm 25. Yes this is the price now for a new 06. But probably because 07s are coming anytime now. and I heard RLs aren't selling too well.

First of all that is a great price for a new RL. I own an 05 RL and an 06 TL both with navi. The RL is much more a luxury sedan. Smoother ride and quieter on the highway. The fit and finish is superior on the RL compared to the TL.

The TL is more a sport sedan with better handling and acceleration. I love the TL and my wife loves the RL. You can't go wrong with either, both are great cars.

At 39K for the RL I think it is the better bargin right now.

Good Luck

$hit, if I were offered an RL for $39k I would leap in a heartbeat.

Currently leaning toward keeping my TL but a deal like that would make me change my mind.

Test drive both. That will tell you what you should get. In my particular case, I traded my TL for an RL, but I know a lot of people wouldn't have done the same.

Get the RL. The car has everything. Awesome ride with some excellent seats and luxury. You won't go wrong. I wish I can get a rebate on my 05 RL. At that price, I should trade in my wife's 04 TL and get another RL.

As all have already said, that is a crazy price!

I think the TL competes with the GS. I like the Acura better anyway.

I traded my '05 TL for my '06 RL because I just thought it was time for more car and I wanted the 4wd capability.

I am ecstatic with my decision. The RL is a great car and I'm lovin it.

Actually, the TL competes with the ES, although some might argue that it competes with the IS.

Definitely get an RL, especially at that price.

Great price!!

I own the RL and have driven a GS300 for 2 days. The RL is the superior car....and I'm a Lexus head (and want to get rid of my RL next year for the LS460L) so not like I have some Acura brand loyalty or anything. The RL is just a fantastic car and is IMO one of the better overall packages out there.

Wow, the new LS 460 is one hell of a car! I wish Acura would come up with a real flagship like that.

The RL competes with the GS. There have been many reviews done my coar mags such as C&D and Motor Trend. Go to those sites and do a search for the RL. In everyone I read where the RL went up agains the GS300 AWD, the RL always acame out ahead.

Yes, the RL has consistently beaten the GS in comparisons. However, the GS outsells the RL, mainly because of the power of brand.

I stand corrected. I was thinking the M35/45 was the competition for the RL.

My wife and I were GS300awd all the way until we actually got to test drive one. We loved the way the GS300awd looked but the navi, interior (center stack), handling and power delivery were subpar.

If the new GS350 comes with the new navi firmware, then that'd give the RL a good run for the money.

I don't think you're going to be able to find a comparably equipped GS300 for $39,800 (AWD, Nav, etc...) Between the TL and RL, I'd take the RL, especially with that price, which is a really good deal. Where I live, the TL is a dime a dozen, but the RL is a little more exclusive. The new TL-S seems interesting, but it will cost you at least what you were quoted on the RL. Regardless, you're pretty young, if you get the RL, do you plan to keep it for a long time?

The reason I ask, I was 27 when I first leased my '05 RL. As sophisticated and mature as I thought I'd be, my adult onset ADHD proved me wrong . Fast forward one year later, it's now really boring to me and I probably wouldn't go the same route if I had to do it all over again. Let's just say I'm glad that I leased versus purchased. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car all around, but it's lost the appeal that makes me want to DRIVE. I now use it primarily for long trips where I want to travel in comfort.

The M35/45 is a direct competitor of the RL. One is Lexus and the other is Infiniti.

Great price. Test drive it....if you like it, go for it. I think all of the various 05 gremlins are out of the car as of 06. No major changes for 07....maybe a new engine and 10hp in 08...maybe. Big deal....perhaps a new bumper. In a nutshell, the car looks much, much, much better in real life than in pictures. It is safe. It is fast if kept over 3000rpm IMHO.

I have had mine one week....traded a B7 S4. This is actually a better car...and the lack of living in the dealer will be nice (the Audi was keeping me in the dealer a lot.....and that was under warranty.....gosh help those after warranty).

GS 300 small inside

As others, I looked at the TL, the infiniti m35 and lexus gs 300 before I bought my RL. I agree with the other comments on the board. the Infiniti is the sportiest (and more noisy), the RL in the middle and the GS the most luxurious and balanced towards ride than handling. One additional factor against the GS: I'm 5'10" and my head was touching the headliner when I test drove (after adjusting seat towards floor). Gs 300 trunk the smallest of the bunch. As others have said: drive them all: it's a very personal decision and all are great cars.

Actually that's true and false. Lexus played it smart on this one. Both cars are direct competitors towards the TL, however the ES isn't as direct of a comparison compared to the IS , anymore.

The previous generation TL's were competitors for the ES. But the current one isn't. These are both sports sedans...the TL is now considered a sport sedan instead of a near luxury sedan of the ES, therefore it now competes with the IS.

Lexus made both a near luxury sedan, and a near luxury sports sedan. The only company to do so. Very clever...and they make amazing money off of it.

Toyota, the most profitable automobile maker on the planet, has the resources to make two separate models of sedans with the same price and the same brand for different customers in the same market. It has proven to be successful for them, but I don't know if it would be worth the capital for another company like Honda or Nissan.
