Short circuit on driver's door handle

Hi! I have a common problem with my used 05 RL - i've got a dead car after battery drain and winter icy rain- no keyless access, auto lock\unlock, navigation display, fuel door opening, may be something else.

I take in\out some fuses as was adviced in the forum, and locate a broken fuse #7 under driver's kick panel.
I buy a 10A fuse in a local grocery and replace broken... voila! - my driver's door got short circuit and some smoke. So i guess the fuse was bad and take it out - smoke immediately stops. I take a trip to a good electrician but he is afraid to fix door intuitively (as we often do in Russia ). The car is too complex.
All posts on the forum lead to TSB 09-042 in the garage but it don't open (i follow the instructions, but link opens only to Acura accessories pages, nothing described in that thread).

Could you help me with acquiring info from this TSB?

Sorry for bad English.

The door handles are prone to this issue. Your best bet is to replace the entire handle assembly.

Thanks for answers.
Yesterday we remove door panel (it was easier than it seems at first glance) and disconnect jack from damaged handle. After this fuse #7 was replaced and all systems began to work - i lose only driver's door handle backlight and keyless opening sensor.

I'll order new handle parts but as described in this thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/door-handle-trim-door-panel-removal-808973/
..it is difficult to replace handle and process is described in the TSB. If I understand correctly - for all you access for TSB's work well, and in my case it may be restricted because of the country or ISP. May be someone could make some screenshots (parts needed to replace and installation order) from TSB 09-042?

Nope, we don't see them here either. Have you checked the service manual here? It may help except I know there are some door instructions missing.

so I experienced this yesterday, good thing I was home. I have a protruding burnt bubble on my driver side door handle which smells. Fluid was also leaking down the side.
per all the recommendations stated, none have worked for me. I'm unable to remove the panel to disconnect the sensor. All the fuses including #7 are fine both under the hood and driver kick panel. There's a secondary driver side fuse box but I can't seem to access it. There is no power to the car whatsoever. I do not have a battery tester to ensure the battery is indeed dead. Tried jumping it, Nada. After a round-trip 10 mile walk yesterday to auto zone just for fuses, I might have to do it again to get a tester then possibly a new battery. My concern is, if I do get a new battery and it powers the car, will shit go wrong again seeing how the handle sensor exploded and caused the problem? My next option is to get it towed to my mechanic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
cheers.

No worries, it's at the mechanic now. See what he has to say or is able to do.
cheers

Cheers, mate. I love this car. But if this handle sensor has a reputation for failing, I would hate for it to happen in a situation where life or death were dependant on my vehicle starting.. Seems like a safety issue Acura should be responsible for, regardless of age and mileage. But hey, it's an 05 with 99k. Waiting on my mechanic for an update and I'll go from there I guess. I actually got burned because it happened when I touched the handle.
cheers, RL09

Pleasure man.

I was surprised you said fuse 7 was fine. In my case the door handle kept blowing it. So i disconnected that handle.

I pulled every single fuse from under the driver dash and none were blown, as my fuse tester lit green for every single one. Fuse 7 actually had a 15 in it and I replaced that with a 10. But after speaking with my mechanic, he indeed confirmed one did blow. Who knows. He ended up disconnecting the sensor for the driver door handle and all is well again in the land of awesomeness. Got a new battery. Now I just need a replacement handle as the pimple that currently sticks out like a sore thumb... Blah! He stated he can get one from the stealership for 390. Ahm, no! Advised him I'll shop around and found a site: acurapartsnow.com who has them for 248.01. Will keep looking for a lower price point. I also stated the known issue of water leaking into the seal causing continuous shortage... He said he might be able to do something about it to prevent it from happening again. I'll go through winter leaving everything as is, and come spring '18, make some upgrades.
hey, mate, cheers again for your help.
happy holidays.

Couldn't he just tell you where it's faltering?

i'm no expert, but couldn't the handle assembly only be changed? here's food for thought https://www.oemacuraparts.com/auto-p...er-handle-scat in case certain part only need changing.

The complete handle is 255 online; I'm sure you can find for less , or used.

Thanks, Happy holidays to you too.
