Ignition does not turn to off until I jiggle the Gear Shifter

I am sure this question has been answered, but I am not able to find the answer.
Please someone point me in the right direction.

Here is the problem:
When I turn the Ignition to OFF it will not turn. The car is off, and in Park. Once I jiggle the shifter, the ignition turns to OFF easily.
I remember a mechanic once telling me that it is a sensor on the shifter that needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is some sensor in the sensor in the shifter that won't let you start the car until the shifter is "fully" in park. I run into this issue sometimes when I have a USB cable that gets stuck between the shift guide and the shifter causing the shifter to not be fully in park, I have to get the cable unstuck before I can turn the ignition.

I have this issue happen with my Camry every so often. I chalk it up to age, but I'd assume it's the shifter not being "fully" in park as Matt mentioned.
