Unhappy Scratch your headlight lens? $995 fine.

I thought I'd pass on a bit of advice we discovered today...

if you scratch that headlight lens-- the only way to replace that acrylic piece is with a part that cost $995. No kidding- almost a grand... 3 shops quoted the same price. Apparently you can't replace just the acrylic piece.

So, I'd recommend not fiddling with the nav system in traffic. Even a minor bump is going to cost us almost $2k. John

That is rather steep. It's not surprising given what it costs to repair a mere bumper nowadays.

Prior to our 2004 Land Cruiser we had a '98. The lenses on those trucks are glass. Well with each one, both the '98 and with the '04 I had the lense get damaged by a rock. It looked just like a BB shot. In each case the entire headlamp assembly needed to be replaced.

I finally decided to get this for the Land Cruiser, and I got it on the RL as well. $50 well spent.

I can understand not being able to replace the lense otherwise you would compromise the seal, and given adaptive headlights.

Fixed. I had this on my 2G TL's headlights. Worked nicely but it yellowed the lights a bit. Then again, this was five years ago, and the formulation has changed in that timeframe.

Not sure why the link doesn't work. Go to autosportcatalog.com

Pick exterior accessories and then vehicle protection.

I've had them for over two years on my Land Cruiser with no problems.

I have both the headlight and foglight protectors. Had to replace the fog protectors recently as they turned brown, but since these pieces are so damn $$, I dont mind spending a few bucks in prevention!

Oh, and if you think that's expensive, the seats in my S2000 are $9k to replace!!

Yep did them on bith cars. Instructions tell you to first spary the hadlights with a misture of water and vinegar (I think). You have to make sure you do that in order to move them around. The stuff really sticks and if you don't and you mess up, they aren't coming off.

Work out the bubbles and let them dry. It may take a while for all the bubbles to clear, but they do. I think I had bubbles on the RL for close to a month before they all cleared out nicely. Perfectly normal as stated in the instructions.

You can't even tell that they're on there.

May have to look into this.

I popped two different foglight lenses in my Infiniti over a 15-month period. Those suckers were $300 apiece, so I just got creative, got a glass company to cut me some new lenses, and epoxied them onto the old housings. $30 apiece, so I saved about $540!

Problem is, headlight lenses are a different animal and you can't do that.

Good grief I need to proof my posts before I hit reply. My previous post was horrible, but I'm assuming most of you knew what I was saying.

Are they removable?

Are these headlight protectors noticeable when they're on, and are they removable?

As for the scratches, I was able to use Meguiar's plastic cleaner and polish to remove quite a bit of clotting and clouding on my wife's RX300 headlight lenses. The polish is somewhat abrasive, so it might also help rub out a scratch.

Once they cure and all the bubbles disappear they are absolutely clear. THe only way you know that they're there is if you go up close and see the edge.

As for removable, Like tints on a window, I'm sure they can be removed, but that would destroy the film, and I imagine it wouldn't be easy.

The site where I have the following pictures is blocked for me from this computer so I'm not sure which one shows a partial view of the front so I'll post both.

The picture isn't very close, but the film is on in these pictures.

You might want to request a free sample from the website. The sample I got was very thick. I've put the 3M films on my Land Cruiser headlamps and it took a bit of work, even with the stretch inherent in those. They work great...

These look like they'd be a bear to work with on the curves.

Not difficult at all, it just took a couple weeks for all the bubbles and fogging to clear.

We warranty for life of the vehicle on the product. Best way to take care of the film is wash and wax it. Clear coated finished like your paint likes it.
