Rust!!!
Rust!!!
So my 06 RL is now showing some signs of rust, very minor so far but nevertheless it's there - the "leading edge" towards the rear door on the innermost edge of the rear driver's side wheel well fender is bubbling under the paint and has a rust colored tinge along the edge. Nothing showing up on the passenger's side wheel well at all.
I checked my friend's 05 RL and his is doing the same thing but in both wheel wells. This is probably the most corrosive environment in North America as we get lots of road salt and are basically surrounded by ocean and get lots of rain and humidity all year long.
Too bad the rear fenders aren't aluminum!

I have the same problem in the rear wheel well..the body shop think its weird since the car isn't old enough to start rusting...but its like a coating so we got that taken care of....btw, I live in massachusetts so a lot of snow!! and more salt!

First thing i did when i got my RL..
I removed the rubber liner on the fender well that lines the rear wheels. ive owned several honda's and acura's and they all use the same thing on the rear wheel wells. water/dirt/salt get trapped up under the seal and can create major rust holes.
if you look for a older honda or acura for sale and they mention Honda rot it (known as rear wheel well rust or rust holes)

Yeah as soon as I got my RL two summers ago I took off those rubber strips. I think the issue is likely due to the fact the inner wheel "lip" edge would represent an extremely thin area for the metal's rust protect coating applied at time of manufacture at the factory, and it stands to reason this coating would easily get compromised on a such a sharp edge. It seems the other similar "edge" areas of the car's bodywork are typically not directly exposed to the elements or are made of non-metal materials (front bumper plastics, etc)
