RL = Great Car for Distances

Bought our 06 RL on Jan 4th with 1348 miles on the odometer. It now has 4139 miles. Drove 400 miles on Sunday evening and the same 400 miles back yesterday. The seats are the best of any car I've had with the next closest being the seats in my former 2002 Yukon. Like Neuronbob said, at 3500 rpm, the motor just wants to make things happen. Several times while passing I've looked down and "hello" we're going 95 mph! It gains velocity in a hurry. It's so stable at 95 that you think/feel it's only going 70 mph.

Great road car. A comfortable car. Love the audio, navigation, phone and information controls. It is a much, much better car than our 2002 RL. I tip my hat to the Honda/Acura engineers. It also gets about 23 - 25% better Interstate gas mileage than our 2002 RL. Acura should have brought this car out in 2003 and not held on to the 1st gen RL so long.

Maybe because I'm accustomed to my hard aftermarket suspension and the consistent creaks of my '02 TL, but between bluetooth, the quietness, the smoothness, and the navigation in the RL that seems light years of the one I'm used to... the RL is an amaaazing car for distances

Chicago to SD, last year-through Vegas, and back. What a drive.
Looking forward to doing it again in 4 weeks

Agree. We did a 4,200-mile trip to CA and back for Thanksgiving and it was extremely comfortable and all-round roadworthy.

Of course, I will always miss the grunt of a big V-8 under the hood, but the RL always had the power necessary to get me over the hills and around the big rigs ... and it ran all day at 85 and over with no complaints.

Excellent road car!

I agree with all of you! I drove the RL from Northern VA to Northern CA (2800 miles?) and the car was incredible! I love this car so much, I even bought the die cast model!

Can't compete with you ultra-high-milers (recently drove our 2004 Odyssey the 900 miles from Glenwood Springs CO to Los Angeles in one day with 3 kids aboard--but that's for another forum). I just drove 135 miles out past Palm Springs last night in the darkness and rain with big rigs, monster pickups and SUVs on all sides. Never felt so secure and comfortable in a car. Avoiding the traffic jams with NavTraffic, having ACC keep a steady following distance and getting 27 mpg at an average speed of 71 mph--sweet! Icing on the cake.

I often take my 2005 RL out on long drives from my home base here in the Bay Area. Last July, I picked this car up on eBay Motors (yes, the auction site) from a wholesale distributor in Orlando, Florida. I then flew out there, and drove the thing all the way back across the country. The 2900+ miles was done flat in about 3 days, including a brief stint pushing the thing to well over 100 on I-10 just out of San Antonio! Of course, there were no cops around, but I certainly didn't make a habit of it!

The car had 10,500 mi when I bought it in Florida. It is now at about 26,000!

I usually use the cruise a lot on the interstates, keeping 'er around 80 or so most of the time, and the car is very smooth-- in fact, smooth as driving on glass. Very little noise or vibration. It's like a rocket, and seems even more stable at higher speeds. So long as I do not adjust my speeds all that much over long distances, I can achieve very good gas mileages that run near 30 or even higher in some cases depending on where I am.

The NAV also has saves me more than once in an unfamiliar city at night! Once I was in Salt Lake City trying to find some hotel and got hopelessly lost. I just flicked on the NAV, keyed in the address, and BAM! I was able to drive right to my distination at 2am without any issue at all. Never have to stop and ask for directions when it's 15 degrees and snowing!

Even though we just bought a Pilot, when we don't travel with our baby, or if I travel by myself, I will still be using my RL for long distance travel.

Luxury and handling trump utility for me.
