Perhaps a stupid question but are you sure it isn't something "in" the glove box that's rattling? I only ask because I had my wheel lock key rattling around once and it took me a week to realize.

I had a rattle in my '06 and turned out to be the tray that holds the owners manual. My service dept broke the attaching clips when they installed my in cabin filters. The replacement was the entire glove box at no cost to me.

+1, except mine was a small screw driver set.

I've got an 05 and had a rattle that I would swear was the glove box. It wasn't, it was the upper part of the dashboard. The sound was in the dash and sure sounded like the box. Have a passenger ride with you and when the rattle is noticed, have them push down on the upper/right most edge of the dash (right where it meets the windshield, near the A-pillar). Good luck!

'05 here as well
have a strange rattle that only rattles when car has been sitting in the the sun.
Seems to come from somewhere near roofline and more towards passenger side. I thought it was the visor, but I pressed on it and nothing changed. Same with Sun roof cover, rear view mirror mount.
Fortunately, after car cools a bit, the sound stops.

I have a rattle (actually more like a rub) from around the sunroof. If I close the shade, the rattle is very muffled. I put some 303 aerospace protectant on the rubber gasket and it gets better for awhile.

In another car, the glove box latch mechanism had to be adjusted. It had slipped a little, glove box door was not held tightly. There was a screw which you could use to adjust the height of the latch, and the rattle was gone. Not sure how the RL glove box latch is designed, however.

The glove box in the RL is a self-contained assembly that comes out as a module once all the screws are loosened. I've taken it out twice to try to hunt down a quivering rattle on rough roads, for which I've added some felt padding at what appear to be contact points with the underdash structure. Not much luck, though, as it still quivers over bumps and such.

Rob144 that's a good idea. Maybe fatty should remove the glovebox and drive around for a little while. If the rattle is gone, you would know for certain it's the glovebox. There are instructions for removing the glovebox in the iPod adapter data.

Yeah, its the glove. When I push on it, it stops rattling. So I will take a look at the latches.

If the door is loose, a simple solution is some foam weatherstripping or something similar around the inside edge to snug it up. I had a loose glovebox door on my old Volvo and the dealer basically but some plastic spacers near the latch. Worked.
