I just got my brand new 06 this week and have been very pleased.

I'm just curious and would like to ask you all a few questions.

1) Besides the RL, what other cars were you looking at if any?

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?

I guess I should start since I am authoring this.

A1) Lexus GS350 w/Navi and Infiniti M35 AWD w/tech package

A2) The price (big discounting on RL) felt I easily got the biggest bang for the buck. Ride was great and the audio system was kind of the clincher.

A3) Only owned it for fours days but so far the fantastic ride and attention to detail in anticipating the needs of the driver and voice activated everything. Friends and co-workers are blown away by the tech in the car. I even had a guy roll his window down at a stop and ask what I was driving.

A4) As a previous owner of the 04 MDX, I kind of miss the auto wipers. With all the tech on this car, no auto wipers? (silly I know)

3. Too hard to narrow it down, but proly all the technology it has.

4. The rattle that I recently got

 

1) Lexus GS300 AWD

2) Interior and price. I loved and still do love the shape of the GS, but I fell in love with the interior of the RL. After experiencing the NAV in the RL, I am even happier. The GS 300s had the Gen IV Toyota/Lexus Nav which is what I have in my Land Cruiser. The Nav in the RL blows away the Toyota version. The Lexus Nav is OK, but the voice recognition is laughable (I never have used it) and no Navtraffic

3) Fit and Finish, understated looks, usable and extremely accurate VR, handling

4) A little more torque would be nice or possibly another gear ratio.

 

1. GS300, M35 and STS

2. Besides the best bang for the buck, ergonomically the interior of the RL outshines the competition (although the GS is a close second).

4. Compared to previous cars I've owned, this car needs more low end torque. 85% of the time all is fine. But the remaining 15% of my driving could sure use the torque coming in at 1500 RPM sooner.

 

1. No other car. I've had my eye on the RL for a while.

2. The price of the RL and the amount I owe on my TL was low enough to allow the trade. Also, because I was jealous of my wife's MDX who's navi and SH-AWD was not on my TL.

3. The whole car pretty much. Better materials, technology, and creature comforts than my TL.

4. Nothing really, except the little ding on my roof that I didn't notice before leaving the dealer. I don't know if it was there before or after I left but the dealer is going to fix it. Maybe that the back up camera is not standard. Also, a couple rattles but I don't hear them that often.

1. Like you, I was thinking about the Infiniti M35x. BTW test drove the Lexus GS350AWD recently - happier with the RL - interior and driver interface with the instruments feels much better in the RL. GS has the edge in power, M35x has a nicer exhaust note, but the RL makes the driver feel most comfortable and the instruments look the best.

3. SH AWD is really something. Totally love it.

4. Wish the brakes were beefier and wish Acura had not done such a good job of soundproofing the engine. The GS 350 engine has a pleasant growl to it. My RL is just so very quiet (and smooth) so I don't know how hard the engine is working unless I look at the tacho.

 

1. Cadillac STS, M35AWD wtech, Toyota Avalon fully loaded.

2. Price value, no comparison to the Cad and toyota, Price difference against the M35 was huge for about the same drivable car (Acura a little better than the M). Audio system and Nav were awesome.

3. Sh-Awd, Audio system, interior appointments, Hi tech everything.

4. I really wanted Active Cruise Control and am bumbed out that they did not offer it as standard or at least as a thousand dollar option instead of packaged with a four thousand dollar option.

Audi A6, BMW 3x and 5x series, Lexus GS350 awd, Infiniti M35x, Mercedes Benz E350 4matic

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
Value for the price

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
The technology, especially the keyless entry and bluetooth

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?
So far, the lack of "soul" in the car that my Audi's had. That and the interface for the iPod.



Oh, and to add to this....I've had the RL for a week. If I could go back a week, I'd get the Audi instead of the Acura.

M35x, but I really have had my heart set on the RL for over a year.

The entire luxury experience, and the driving dynamics with SH-AWD, A-Spec, and decent rubber

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?

That teeny-tiny trunk and the funny-fitting cargo net that requires an engineering degree to install (gave up and just attached it to the metal hooks)! The trunk looks smaller than the one in my 3G TL! Otherwise I love the car.

For clang: A-Spec-ize the RL and then see if it has some "soul". It will give the car some spirit as long as you can tolerate the slightly bumpier ride.

BMW 3 series.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
Bang for the buck.

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
AWD and all the toys.

Lack of torque.
Curious lack of some minor features (rain sensing wipers, RDS for FM).

1. Lexus Is350, GS 350, LS 430, Infiniti M and G, and the TL Type S. The Type S was my second choice, MUCH better than the 2 other TL's I drove. I drove all of these.
2. Acura quality, feel and price.
3. SH-AWD, it works, Alum calipers and suspension comps, interior layout.
4. Delay when shifting by the paddles, very slow.

A: Lexus GS300, Inifiniti M35, Lexus ES350.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
A: Lots of things. It came fully loaded - no options to pick and choose, except back-up camera. Good experience with Acura/Honda (2 Legends, 1 Prelude, 3 Accords). Best driver's seat of the cars I was looking at. Best interior style. Thoughtful touches everywhere you look. Value for the dollar.

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
A: It has my initials, so the floor mats look monogrammed. Actually, driver comfort is a real high point. I couldn't even sit in a GS without rubbing my head on the headliner, and with the seat that low I had no thigh support. I drove San Diego-Vegas-San Diego and enjoyed the most comfort I've ever had in the driver's seat of a car.

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?
A: In-town gas mileage a little low. Concern about the high-speed whine. I have a heck of a time starting the car on the first try.

 

a) We were going to keep our '04 TL till lease end, extend/buy it and wait for the '09 TL to come out.
b) This site and some of the members whose opinions I respect from other Acura forums. Our new MDX has all the tech goodies that were not available on the TL and the RL does. Oh yes, did I mention the price on the remaining 06's?
c) Smooth, understated elegance.
d) The rear view camera that we have become used to had to be added extra.

Lexus GS, BMW 5-series, Jaguar S-type, MB E-class (new Infiniti M's not out yet)

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
The combination of price and seeing the car in person. I was astounded by how much better it looks in person than in photos -- I still don't understand why this is so. Once I sat it in, I was a goner. The interior is stunning.

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
Quality! I was looking for Japanese reliability and got it. First model year, 3 months into release of techno-nerd's dream and have had just one repair done in 23 months.

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?
Hmmm. Nothing big. Would like little differences -- power outlets live when ignition off, display AM/FM radio info, no decent iPod interface, etc.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
UNDERSTATED, WHICH IS IMPORTANT IN MY BUSINESS. UPGRADED FROM A TL

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?

KEYLESS ENTRY, STURDY FEEL, RADIO

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?

NOTHING........YET, ONLY HAVE THE CAR FOR 4 DAYS

 

1) Besides the RL, what other cars were you looking at if any?

BMW 3/5 series, Cadillac STS, Audi A6, SAAB 9-5.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?

Price/performance, and the nav system -- it's so far ahead of everything else out there.

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?

The nav system! And SH-AWD... which surprised me with just how GREAT it is. Same with the audio system.

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?

Well, my '05 rattled and squeaked like a loose hampster wheel, but the '06 has been pretty quiet. I would have expected the bluetooth and ipod interfaces to have been as perfectly engineered as the navi system and the radio -- and they aren't. The bluetooth is OK, the ipod link is crap.

GS 430, Infiniti M35 with sports package, BMW 530, Mercedes CLS 500, Audi A6.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
Deal I couldn't refuse.

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
Audio system, luxurious interior/wood and taupe leather, faux wood steering wheel and knob (very comfortable), exterior paint (lakeshore silver), extremely quiet interior, blue lights in interior cabin at night, nav system, A-spec rims, and service at local Acura dealership.

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?
Spotty bluetooth pairing with my phone, although this is a function of my Samsung A900. Voice recognition not always correct. Not as responsive as my 350Z, but tradeoff is a much more comfortable ride. Poor gas mileage with city driving, 15 mpg.

 

1) Besides the RL, what other cars were you looking at if any?
I was actually looking at the Porsche Cayanne, because I always wanted one, but I chose to stay with Acura.

2) What pushed you to buy your RL?
Just looked around long enough, thought it was time to make the buy

3) What are you most pleased with about your RL?
Everything so far, man I still have so much to learn about this car though.

4) What are you most disappointed with about your RL?
Nothing yet, only had the car a few weeks myself
