I think the RL handles and acclerates a bit better than the 1998 528I with std wheels, no sport package.

The one thing I REALLY miss on the 528 is that it had (for me) an ideal combo of fine handling with a bit softer ride on the freeway. We have concrete freeways in the sf bay area (such as I 580 that I drive frequently): the bmw would float over the bumps between the concrete sections whereas you feel every one with the Rl. Not a bit deal until you are trying to take a nap while someone else is driving.

overall, don't regret switching to the RL vs getting a new bmw 5 series.

I had an A4 and an A6 before the RL - seemed like both of those spent more time at the dealer than in my garage.

No RL (or only the '09)? Might try a GS450H. Waiting to see what the MKS looks like in person. Or maybe the Jag XF.

I have both BMW 535 and RL. 535 feels very tight and handling is very good. RL need low more level torque, and it pulls but feels like you pulling a heavy car. Lane changes are good in 5-series. The AWD system is better in RL till BMW introduces the Dynamic xDrive in 5-series. I believe Acura is also improving their SH-AWD system.

I'd like a Nissan GT-R. If I had to go sedan instead I'd want the LS460L loaded up. If I couldn't have that then I'd probably want the IS350.

Wow, lot's of potential A6 converts in this thread. Admittedly, when I first got the RL in '05, I was cross shopping it with the A6, 530xi, and M35x. I probably would've gone the A6 or M35x route if pricing had been more competitive.

If i were in the market again, i'd probably downgrade from the RL to something like a Subie Forester XT I need an AWD beater.

And then when it comes time to get rid of my A4, I'd upgrade to an S5.

I saw an M45x on the road yesterday. While I wasn't a fan of the G35/M35/M45 body style, the latest iteration of the M follows the softened design of the new G, and I like it a lot!

Funny how like the CTS, just some subtle changes could change my whole perception of the car.
