Pulled the trigger on an RL
Well it took a while and a lot of patience, but I finally pulled the trigger on an '06 RL with about 38k on it. Unfortunately not certified, but I still have a year or so on the powertrain.
It's carbon gray with illegal tints all around, hehe. May have to get it removed, getting tired of rolling down the windows every time I see a cop...
The car is immaculate. The only blemish I could find was a very slight barely noticeable ding on the back quarterpanel that only shows up in the sunlight. And a dented rear speaker grille in the passenger side door. Oh, and my onstar is showing a red light. Other than that, super clean and after a wash, pretty much looks brand new. Driving it thus far has been a pleasure and I love having so many features I never had before. God, makes my poor old legend seem like a ford escort. I will however keep one eye/ear open for the ubiquitous whirring/whining noise from the driveshaft that seems to plague the '06s.
Anyway, thanks to everyone on the board for all the good info on the RL. I definitely did my homework and read up and gathered all the info from this board before making my decision. This is by far the nicest and most option loaded car I have owned. I keep finding excuses to drive somewhere. Looking forward to my next long road trip!

I believe there was a class action and a recall that took care of this. They did not actually recalibrate odometers, but stated something to effect, if you have these VINs, add 5% to your odometer for warranty, and the dealer will honor it.
There is a discussion on this, and you can probably also Google on the 'net.

Congrats. Now its time to post pix. Don't worry about rolling windows down. In my city, my friend who is a police officer stated they don't waste time stopping citizens over tint. Now If you're stopped for speeding or something and they notice your tint, they'll add to the ticket. I don't know how they do it in SFO.

for me, the mileage is not the issue. Since mine is an 06 first sold around Feb of '06, the car is actually pushing 5 years come Feb of this year. so the bumper to bumper is pretty much gone. unless they also extended the length of the warranty too. doubtful though.

Congrats on the purchase. Did you get an extended warranty? You'll likely need it, this car has a lot of little (and big) issues that can cost big $$$ if you aren't under a warranty. Search around the board and you'll see things flickering bulbs ($250 for dealer to replace), AFS units failing ($1000), loose side mirrors, failing AC units, and prop shaft and other whining issues. I myself have had many issues with my 05, including some of those mentioned above and now a failed torque converter that is currently in the shop being replaced (a $2k job, but covered under extended warranty.) In fact, my 05 probably has seen the most problems of any car I've owned in 25 years. I have 68k miles on the car and bought it with 43k in Spring 08...i have about 16 months left on my extended warranty.
I love the car, but these problems are adding up and if I didn't have a warranty, it would be gone by now. I'm hoping that all of the problems in the car reveal themselves before the warranty is up because I'd like to keep the car for at least 10 years.
You still have time to get a warranty as long as you don't exceed 50k miles, it's worth checking into and they aren't that expensive compared to the potential cost of repair for even one of the above items failing. I paid $900 when I bought the car, but I see others on the board paying about $1200, still not that bad for what might await.

You can, however, purchase an extended warranty at pretty much ANYTIME - as long as it has less than 150,000 miles. But the good thing to purchase now, as oppose to later, it'll be less $$.

Just a warning on tints: CHP and some cities have announced new, much more stringent ticket enforcement campaigns to go with the new, higher fine prices California just adopted. CHP and local cities now make a lot more money off of fix-its and other tix, and they all have an incentive to ticket like mad to make money their broken budgets don't have.
It's the motorist tax. So, think about that tint in the context that you might be a rolling meal ticket. Donuts ain't always free.

yeah, i wanted to purchase the extended acura care warranty, but since the factory warranty has run out, i don't think im eligible to purchase. at least that is what I have been told. i'm under the mileage, but it's close to 5 years now. unless i get a 3rd party warranty which is not what I want to do, unless someone here has a good recommendation.

yeah, that's sort of why i stayed away from the '05 models. I had heard that the '05s had more "gremlins" than the other models. Hopefully the 06 is a bit more stable.

but i'll probably leave it pretty much stock. can't really afford anything right now, hehe.
love the car though. now i'm just super paranoid that someone will hit my car with bad driving or door dings at the parking lots. already noticed two small paint chips that wasn't there before on the passenger side door. time to buy some touch up paint now...

thought about adding a spoiler. maybe some better tires. I used to put some decent sticky tires on the old legend, which handles beautifully by the way. so maybe I'll do the same.

As for tires most love Continental mud/snow rated. I have that brand but since im in the south, my dealer had a brand new set of summer tires installed on my the car i looked at and subsequently bought.

Congrats on the ride and yes there are OEM spoilers for the 05 - 11 actually, you can get a pretty good deal on them if you look around. I got mine off Ebay back in 06.

Welcome, and congrats!
I know your fellow RL owner is just giving you a helpful heads-up on why an AcuraCare extended warranty is advisable, but don't let that litany of possible troubles scare you. I've had one or two (notably the trick door handles), but my RL experience has generally been a trouble-free pleasure. Although I know exactly what you mean about being protective of your new baby!
For those touch-up marks, check out something called Langka Blob Eliminator. A great product to use together with your touch-up paint.
Hey rlerman, not to hijack the thread, but: Does that spoiler enable you to see the trunklid edge out the back window when you park? That would make life a little easier.

I really don't want a crappy 3rd party warranty. I've just heard too many horror stories in dealing with them. Unless any of you have one that you can recommend. Otherwise I'll just take my chances.
